Cukedaddy18650 is also the battery's size 18mm diameter 65mm length
So a AA battery is something like 14500 AAA 10450 https://www.amazon.ca/lithium-ER10450-Li-SOCl2-Lithium-Non-rechargeable/dp/B018TOPOQS
Don't quote me tho.

obiwankenobiMy EDC light uses 18650. It clips comfortably to my pocket or belt, lasts longer than I'm patient enough to test out on a charge, and pumps out up to 1600lm. It doubles as my bike headlight for my morning commute too. I'd like to see a AAA small EDC light compete with this thing on any front, but as near as I can tell there isn't one that comes close. I guess it'd be a bit big to clip to a key chain though (as if I don't have enough crap on there already).
I guess it depends on your personal preferences, rather than a hard rule like "18650 is too big," eh?
In either case, since the light this discussion is for can't use a 10440 as well as AAA, I'm out. Lithium ion compatibility is a must.

HeeftyMy Surefire Titan Plus uses AAA batteries and has 300 lumens. It is my favorite EDC torch

CukedaddyMy little research shows the working voltage on Panasonic Eneloops AAA 2100 cycle batteries is 1.2V. This flashlight can handle (per the specs.) up to 1.5V which is what a standard alkaline battery produces (if ever so briefly) vs N-MH. So yeah you can use a rechargeable battery. Just don't use Li or you will get a higher voltage and risk killing your bulb sooner or worse.

CukedaddyAs TRexSr has already mentioned, this light's can certainly use rechargeable AAA NiMh batteries like the Eneloop Pro's I'm using in all my Lumintop Tools. No problem whatsoever! They work great. Regarding to your statement a 18650 is better, it could be but it all depends on how you're planning to use your light. By example, if I'm on the job I carry a quite heavy flashlight (1000lm with RGB leds) as my primary on my dutybelt. Besides my primary light I normally carry at least two more light's with me, one in my pants pocket and one on the micloop from my jacket. One of those is the Nitecore Tip CRI (I believe 220lm) and the other uses a 14500 (950lm + a red led). Other than that I often have a extra (little) light with me to test out, like a AAA/AA/CR123 or USB sized light. So, again it's all up to your own preference, YMMV.

Dr.OetqerAmen. my 1000lm Olight sits by my bedside next to the Glock (lol). I carry a 350lm 3xAAA backup in my get home bag and a AA cheapie (you see them on Wish and GB for around $4) and I keep 2 solar powered lights nearby as well with the Mrs getting a 3xD maglite with an older led bulb that works decently (she can whack someone with it lol). I love my new Brass AAA as my gentleman's carry. They all serve a nice purpose and what needs upgrading/downsizing will happen when the right light comes around. Hehehe

GOOD-OLE-USAI bought the SS 90 degree light and soon it will ship out to me. I got it in the Cree version I think which is fine (don't think Nichia emitter was available for that one) because it will open up the darkness a little better imo. I like their Rev.4 model of the black aluminum AAA with that whopping 145 lumens on high. Newest led bulb and all... I'd love to get that for a better price for my SAK leather (dual) pouch. Darn this hobby, knives and lights and my current bags/packs from 3V Gear. I'm getting outta control. LOL

TRexSrlol...Yeah the past year I've been researching "best made edc" stuff. In love with brass cuz it reminds me of the stuff my g-dad had. And it STILL works! Axes, wool, brass edc "key rings", knives, lights, guns, ETC! Have my eyes on Best Made Co. Lights now! Whew...

TRexSrMy 1st was a Fossil in highschool. Actually great watch. Now gone. I can't spend more than $200 as of now...not justifiable. I've been looking at Seiko Solars, Citizen Eco-drive (solar), & Casio solar triple sensor (all analog and Field watch design). I only have a Seiko that I paid $80.

TRexSrI couldn't find a Nichia version too, but as you mentioned for this purpose a regular Cree led should be fine. Yeah dude, this will become a hobby before you know. Hahaha. Already spend more as my lady will appreciate. "Don't you have enough knives and flashlights yet? Grrr!", "Yeah babe, and what about your shoes?" Whahaha ;-) But on topic, yes all those lights are great and serve there own purpose.

Bassie18350....? Yeah, and what's your point? [Edit] Ah ok, sorry. Thanks for pointing out of the 'smaller 18650' sized battery. Sure that's a option, but I don't know if there are many nice pocket/key chain sized lights out there. [Edit] The little 16340 Fenix E15 with 450lm is also a nice edc light, which should fit your key chain if you so desire.
