Flashlights are one of the most common components of a strong EDC. From the Prometheus Alpha to the Tool Ti, we see thousands of requests for flashlights of all price points and genres on Massdrop. Given that, it should come as no surprise that our first EDC Custom Product is a budget flashlight. Most entry level options leave a lot to be desired; whether it’s cheap materials, poor tolerances, or illogical emitter choices. We saw an opportunity to gather input from our community and create a flashlight with Lumintop that packed the most requested features into a product priced so aggressively that it would be accessible to everyone. This is the result: a pocket flashlight made from unfinished brass, titanium (button), and gold plated stainless steel (the clip), with your choice of CREE or Nichia LED, and manufacturing tolerances you’d expect from something 2x-3x the cost. It’s also IPX-8 waterproof and runs off a single AAA battery. The goal with this product was to make a flashlight so compelling, priced so aggressively, that it would appeal to existing enthusiasts, and open the door to the rest of our community. With all of our Custom Products, it’s our goal to bring the different communities on Massdrop closer together. How do you think we did? Full disclosure, we may not be able to offer this at $25 + free domestic shipping in the future, but we wanted to make this launch as accessible as possible. Special thanks to DB Custom for making a suggestion based on the samples that we’ll be implementing on the production level. When you power on the samples, they start in medium power mode, then cycle to low, then cycle to high. DB Custom suggested we have them start in low, cycle to medium, then high. It’s a much better choice and Lumintop will be programming the production units as such. Finally, thanks for your interest in this product. I get super excited whenever we launch a Custom Product, especially when it’s the first in a particular community. These launches are the realization of the vision we’ve had for many years, to create products with the enthusiast community on Massdrop. Without you all—everyone reading this page, clicking on our emails, and joining drops—we wouldn’t exist. So thank you sincerely, and please let us know how this product could be improved : )

Will> start in low, cycle to medium, then high
I suggest you also change the Low from 3 lumens to 1 lumen, like the ReyLights

jon_sliderExactly. Having a L-M-H sequence is fine, but 3 lumen is too bright.
If you're going to start at low, start REAL low. Otherwise, you defeat the purpose.

WillThank you Will. This flashlight gets great reviews on various social media sites. It's going to come in handy when I take late night walks in my neighborhood. It's just the right size (pocket friendly) and bright enough to illuminate my path at night. This is my first flashlight purchase on MassDrop. I just had to join this drop.

WillMalkoff produces great lights. I carry several for work everyday and I trust them to perform in life and death situation. I think a Malkoff drop would be very successfull

WillJust want to confirm what may be completely obvious but is the key factor for me in deciding to purchase: is it button controlled or twist controlled?

WillI'm sure you're inundated with Custom Massdrop requests, however, what about an 18650 flashlight like Best Made Co. did with Four Sevens? In addition, the smaller usb rechargeable version? Four Sevens does Limited Edition/Collaboration runs.
*Tru-Nord brass compass *Gransfors Bruk Small Forest Axe *High Carbon Steel Bushcraft knife *100% wool blankets, shirts, pants, socks, anoraks, etc. *1000D rucks, slingpacks, backpacks *cotton canvas or sail cloth backed with wool tarp *etc, etc, etc...THE GOOD'OLE AMERICAN MADE STUFF!!!
Man I wish I was on your payroll to get fine pieces to the public...licensed with Massdrop name of course, but at reasonable/excellent prices!!!

WillI've always been curious why people like one sequence over another. I guess if your primary concern is stealth or conserving night vision starting with low makes sense. I can't think of any other reason to sequence that way, but that doesn't mean there isn't. I would want it to start on high, give me all the light I could want to start and if I need to be more discrete Ill cover it with my hand or pant leg until I cycle to something less. Ultimately I don't like flashlights with multiple levels and only a single control mechanism. I frequently use the momentary on feature of a flashlight, so I never know if its going to come back on at the next level in the sequence or if it is going to restart.
Personally I would like to see a mechanically solid (a confirming "click") twist tailcap mechanism to determine output and a tailcap press button (with momentary on capability) to actually engage the flashlight. Now I can start the flashlight in whatever mode makes sense for my situation. Let me know when you guys want to design that flashlight.

Ronin165I'll second that, Gene Malkoff makes great lights. His electronics & lamp modules are incased in a epoxy resin making the almost indestructible.

BrainFlushA friend of mine manufactures a premium wood stove with American sourced materials, absolutely nothing foreign in his stoves. There is no way I could give him a present from China. Guess I'll keep looking.......

polarisgoldThen you are missing out. 10 years ago. I would have been like MiC? Kill it with fire! But today, they have really changed the way manufacturers think and produce. Tell your friend to also throw out his iphone and TV and anything else he owns. It's almost guaranteed MiC one way or another. ;)

BrainFlushIt want be me missing out.....I may buy one for myself. I kinda have a flashlight fetish. There are so many good ones out there. A few years back I bought a Coast flashlight.....I was amazed every time I used it. Before that I had Maglights, great head basher but I always thought the light they produced was weak....

WillCan you tell me if the lens on these is also heat resistant? I need a bright light to peek into a firing kiln.
