Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in this drop! In the Men's Accessory polls on Massdrop, we see tons of votes/requests for leather weekender bags. Sadly, they're usually very expensive, and tend to lack a complete feature set for what you need on a multi-day trip.
Working with contract manufacturing partners in Asia, we developed the Cruz, a full grain leather weekender bag built to last with all the features you need for comfortable travels.
Some of the most exciting features are:
The main compartment opens with a full side flap, this means you can pack your bag intelligently (playing tetris is much harder when you can only look from the top down) and access items at any layer of your possessions with ease.
The side compartment (note how the top of that compartment is visibly shorter than the main compartment, so you know which side to leave facing out in the overhead bin) has a couple important sections. It has a laptop sleeve that'll hold up to a 15" Macbook Pro or Dell XPS 15 (15" gaming laptops, aside from the Razer Blade, won't fit). The horizontal leather pocket (it will have depth in the production units, the samples used for pictures show it as flat) is specifically designed for your laptop power supply or kindle. The vertical pocket is designed for phones, audiophile DAPs, and portable gaming devices.
On either end of the bag, you'll see compartments designed for shoe storage. These can also be used for safe headphone storage.
The bag is fully lined in durable cloth, designed to stay together over years of use.
Finally, the included strap is full grain leather as well.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Cruz!
aparkerlueNope, the bag has no visible branding. This will likely change in future drops (something small/subtle on the inside) but there is no branding on these units.
WillThis sounds excellent so far. How strong are the attachment points of the shoulder straps at the bag. I'm worried about it ripping off under heavy load. In a similar vein how rigid is the bottom of the bag. In a heavy load does it buckle?
WillHey will, thanks for the quick reply.
I'm honestly more concerned about the stitching yielding before the metal buckles (if that's what they are called). Let's go extreme and say around 25 ish pounds.
And in such a case if the stitching doesn't snap, how flat would the bottom be (i.e how much would it but let under the weight)?
Thanks
WillAny way we can know where the leather is sourced from? I've been looking for a first duffel bag to take on trips and whatnot, and I've never had one. I'm trying to decide between this and a cheaper heavy canvas one. I'm open to suggestions from other people too! :)
WillWill this end up being available in more colors? Previously Massdrop had a similar, if not the same, weekender in a darker brown that is more preferable in my opinion.
Also, is the weight actually over 7lbs? That seems fairly heavy for this size bag.
WillHey Will, thanks for answering all of these questions. I am *this* close to purchasing a bag (still deciding which color I want). Is there any kind of warranty offered on this item? And if so, what kind and how long?
WillHave you abandoned this drop, Will? How come you haven't responded to a bunch of the questions below from a over a month ago? Is it chrome or vegetable tanned? Is there any warranty? Is the body constructed of a single piece of leather or is it multi-piece, and how many pieces? Where is the leather sourced from? What are the dimensions of the shoe compartments? 2 days left in this drop and you haven't responded to anything in WEEKS. Do you even work for mass drop or are you just some dude?
