Do I Need to Lube My Keyboard Switches?

Switches are especially daunting right out of the gate as there’s just so many options out there to pick from – each with their own unique specifications, manufacturers, and more. Though, there seems to be VERY mixed opinions on it, and apparently the lack of a real finish makes it warp and/or get stained over time from your hands.
How is the firmware/software coming along? I know the software improvements were meant to not only improve the CTRL but help for support of other user made products with QMK. I've been looking at designing a custom PCB of my own and wondered what features are having universal support.
