My brand new Massdrop CTRL LEDs turn off after about two minutes, and I can't control brightness.

And I'm using the default firmware.
Please send help.

MatthewRoboTry using a different cable and a different USB port. Preferably try a completely different computer entirely. It's best to make sure 100% that it is or is not the fault of the keyboard. This is looks like it could be a power delivery issue (not enough power).

Urano_MetriaI'm using the cable that came with the machine too. I did try switching host USB ports though, and it changed from "turns off lights almost instantly" to "turns off lights after a few minutes".
Except now it's back to the "turns off lights almost instantly" setting.
Turns out though, plugging it into my Dell XPS 15 did resolve the issue. I'm just a lot more concerned about how to get it working with my desktop.

MatthewRoboI am currently having the same issue with increasing brightness (It does not work, and decreasing brightness is really slow)
edit: the brightness work on my laptop and not my desktop.

De9edI've found a solution! It isn't perfect, but it worked for me. I plugged in the CTRL to a powered USB 3.0 hub. One with one of those external power connectors, the kind that plugs in into a typical wall socket/power strip. Plugging in the power brick into the hub resolved the issue, and now my LEDs work.

De9edWell, I'm not sure if it'll fix it if I plug it back in to my motherboard, but it works on my USB hub and I'm probably not gonna be moving that around much.

MatthewRoboThe problem at hand is, that the USB controller of your system (hub or motherboard) doesn't supply a good/high voltage. There is a pin connected to the CPU to monitor your voltage to not bust your next USB power manager, which usually results in the USB port being dead until you entirely reboot the system. You can press FN+SHIFT+CTRL+I which should disable that feature. However be warned: This is a security feature so you don't blow out the hub. On MacBooks the power management seems to grant you the least amount of USB-2 voltage when talking to the device and being stubborn to provide more. You can, slowly, test it with incrementing the brightness. If it's stable, you can flash firmware to disable it by default and/or increment the LED power level.

De9edI suspect that your USB power management is very conservative of your mainboard. It is possible by reflashing to disable it entirely. But be warned using it on other devices than this PC then. In general you won't likely see permanent damage, but disabled USB ports until you cold boot the mainboard again, if it ever should happen.

DarkMioI have tried some usb settings within bios ( the motherboard is a z97 ) but no help. I will be upgrading to a new computer soon so I will probably not mess with the default firmware. Thanks for the tips

De9edSure thing. I have locked my CTRL to the mid-range power draw, because the USB port on the MacBook can handle it and it's only used there right now. Getting it to reflash without turning on the LEDs is also possible, so I don't worry much.

DarkMioThis worked, however my friend’s CTRL keyboard works without doing this. Both connected to my PC.
