Hey, guys. Just wanted to share my review of this headphone. I almost wanted to make a Youtube video just to talk about it, but then I just don't have enough time. 1200 words will have to do for now. You can find my review on both of these websites: https://www.head-fi.org/f/threads/fostex-t-x0-massdrop-edition.852237/page-4#post-13544086 http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/fostex-t-x0-review.4552/
If you don't want to mod them, get them and buy one of the Fiio amps and be happy. Planar bass for less than <$200 is a dream. These have MUCH better bass than stock T50RP Mk.II and much better than anything closed-back <$200 I have heard.
If you do plan to mod them, I may post a mod guide some time soon. They require much less effort than stock T50RP and will sound very good already without you spending 300 hours trying out different kinds of foam in them. The damping is already about 80-90% optimal, which is far more than I can say for some T50RP mods that I have heard, and I don't wanna brag but I have seriously heard a lot over the years...
Comfort-wise, I wear glasses, I have big head, I am in LA in a room that's "air-conditioned" by a fan. I haven't had any problem with them for the past 2 weeks... at 3-4 hours a day. The pads alone are worth more than $50, guys. They use some really premium material, and it shows. The Brainwavz hybrid pads have nothing on this, and I think the only pads that beat them are Sennheiser Orpheus pads for the HE60 and HE90! (yeah, I actually do have a collection of ear pads to boast about!)
Sorry if the above sounds a bit crazy! I'm just too excited! This one marks a milestone! It's raised the bar for a baseline T50RP mod. I think all T50RP mods moving forward should sound at least this good, or use this as the base for further exploration.
Massdrop definitely ain't getting this review pair back! I'm sending back to them a stock T50RP Mk.II cuz it costs the same anyway! Hahahahaha!!

Bill-PThese would be my 2nd pair of audiophile quality headphones. What mods would you recommend for these has I'm a smidge inexperienced in what I'm looking for. I currently have the Shure 215ltds and it feels empty if that makes sense. Like almost hollow if I'm trying to describe it. And then the bass muddies the mids on more dubby edm songs. I took a look at the list of mods but I'm unsure of what I should be doing like at all since its already partly modded

TekilaShotAbsolutely not, Fiio Q1 would not be able to drive these. I have an amp with double the power of the Q1 and on max volume it's pretty quiet. These T50RP headphones are very hard to drive. Do a search in this forum and look to see what other are recommending.

Bill-PHow about tube amps from Monoprice? Will the be able to drive these phones? Which wattage should be sufficient - 24W or 50W?

TekilaShotI'd go with something with a lot more power, I would look for an amp with a headphone impedance upto 600Ω. I have a FiiO E18 with similar power to the Topping NX2 and it's quiet on T50RP.

TekilaShotI hear the XDuoo XD-05 DAC/Amp is quite powerful and would probably drive it nicely. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/xduoo-xd-05-dac-amp
It comes up every once in awhile on Massdrop, but seeing as how long the wait for this headphone is, it'll probably come before the we get any announcement of shipping for these headphones.
Here's Zeo's review of this and other portable dac/amps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ve2HfON4330

TekilaShotThe new FiiO Alpen (I think there's and upgrade out now) should work well. Although far from neutral, portable tube amps are quite powerful. If you like your sound warm, the harmonic distortion is very pleasing. I have a Little Bear which is quite powerful.

Sujay RaoThe FiiO ALPEN 2-E17K maximum headphone impedance is 150 Ω, wondering if you've tried it with the T50RP headphones, I don't think it would drive it well. It would sound very quiet.

TekilaShotOrdered these on the last drop, should be able to power the T50RP's without a problem. They have a balanced in/out. From what I've heard the balanced out has more power. They just shipped mine really excited to try this out.

DanLeYou're right. I haven't tried it with T50RP. With 300 ohm Beyer it's a whisper. Many of these portablie tube amps are surprisingly powerful. Provided of course that you like the typical warmth.
