It seems Fostex is already in the process of making the T50RP successor, a wood version called the T60RP ($300 price) :

This makes the T-X0 much less interesting, if the new T60RP has other substantial upgrades rather then just the wood.
Edit: It seems it has the option of having balanced cable, so it indeed has more upgrades. I can see now why Fostex unloaded the MKii models here.

ebjredI don't understand where your going with this post the successor of the t50rp mk2 was the mk3 there a modding choice which is why people like the mk3 mods over some of the mk2 mods and vise Versa the T-x0 is just a "lightly modded" mk2 with a lot less of the cost than and aftermarket modded mk2 the T60rp has no relevance as it's not in the same price range or the same tooling used

James-cooperThe MK3 is nothing more than cosmetic refresh, with minor differences in the sound based on an outdated design. The T60RP looks to have major changes, with a vastly superior removable cable shown in the photo. (The locking system of the T50RP is prone to breaking.) If the sound is better, the T60RP is by far the smarter choice to buy, and price may not even be $300. (It would still be the better buy for $300, considering warranty.) I predict there will be another offloading on Massdropwhen with the MKIII models.

ebjred This t60rp is no more than a cosmetic refresh then as there is no talk about new drivers in these just wood cups and a better wire connection, for double the price and no reviews out yet its hardly made the t-x0 and less interesting especially when the t-xo has had minor mods and is limited edition comparing it to the the t60rp but each to there own i suppose.

James-cooperThere is certainly more going on than just wood cups. Some of the first T50 mods were to add closed wood cups to it, the Smeggy "Thunderpants" Back in 2011. (also at that time, which was when I got my T50RP, they were also much cheaper, about $70 new IIRC) However if you look at the devleopment threads for wood cups (or closed T50 variant at all) they all have damping on the backside, the reason is because the driver is flat, and produces sound in both directions, unlike a dynamic driver, which has an asymmetric profile by its nature. So damping the inside of the wood cups is very important for these. or you will get a lot of out-of-phase reflection from the dense wood. That's the main difference here with the T-X0 and the normal T50. that and the earpads. Speaking of which, the next biggest thing in the T50 modding community is the earpads. The stock ones are too thin and don't seal too well. This hurts soundstage and bass response (and comfort for some people, but I never had an issue, even with 5+ hours). I think everyone whose upgraded to a different set of earpads has liked it. These have a huge effect on the sound. Not just upgrading them to something better (anything really) but tuning them is important: you want to take a decent set of earpads with the qualities you like, and then dampen the inside of the wood cups, then tune a little from there with different materials of damping etc. With a few iterations you can come out with a much better product very quickly and then go into production. I'm very happy about the precision of the laser cut foam in these, since getting that right on DIY is much harder. But if you're making 1000+ you can do stuff like that.
I would say the T-X0 is a minimally modded and tuned T50, but they did all the common mods to it "right". Even if the T60 is a minimally modded and tuned "thunderpants" then I expect it to sound completely different than the T50.
I hope they beef up those gimbals from the stock, Mine immediately broke and I had to superglue it back together. It's sort-of a weak point in the design with heavier cups so I don't want it to be fragile. Not sure if it's worth $300 though, it's competing with Sennheiser HD650 at that price point, as well as all the other "mid-end" planars from hifiman, oppo, etc.
Anyway, I'll eagerly await the measurements.

dorkvaderWhen you say "there's certainly more going on than just wood cups" you know what else there is? There interesting and id like to know more but with nothing much out about them then I'll go back to my previous comment to why the original post was started about it making he T-x0 less interesting: it doesn't change anything about the T-x0 because it's totally different and in the modding community people prefer differnt things
