I’ve already bought the K7XX and the Hifiman HE4XX, but I’m looking for a closed back headphone to complement them for on planes and such. I’ve been thinking about the RBH HP-2 Beeyllium, but this looks intriguing at about the same price.
I notice that it‘s only semi-closed though, how much sound leaks out of these?

tutetibiimperesSome sound leaks out of here, but only enough to hear in a quiet room or place. Something that you have to take into consideration, though, is that there isn't much isolation, and if that is what you're going for, you should get the berylium. Another thing is the fact that these headphones need a good amp, they are really hard to drive.

tutetibiimperesFor planes? Buy Sony 1000x or 1000xm2, noise canceling is the cure.

AnonymousArthurNoise cancelling is still way to expensive for the benefit, most noise cancelling headphones bypass whatever amp you are using. Just extra work for the driver to put out (that it doesn't have). Those headphones you linked have awful built in amps, they're basically a $10 Amp, $10 Driver, $200 For aesthetics and $60 Sony profit

blueberrymannTo me I think it worths every penny. Since the NC effect is too good, I can‘t take it off now.

AnonymousArthurIf you want NC the best is a closed loop Isolated IEM all this "NC" stuff is marketing . Your suggestion just seems so out of place seeing this is an audiophile section. but hey you want $300 NC headphones that sound like beats go ahead.

chekhanI've just upgraded from Bose QC15 to Sennheiser PXC550's. Noise cancelling isn't as good as the Bose but sound quality is better. Having said that for listening to music they are still no match for decent pair of open backed headphones. The Senns are quite expensive if you pay full price, however they seem to be discounted for often than the Bose. I find them much more comfortable than the Bose and the touch controls work really well.

chekhanIf you're looking for something other than IEM's, then your best bet is probably noise cancellation. Unless you can find something along the lines of the earmuff style ear protection in headphone-form...depending on how much you need to reduce noise, been a long time since I've been on a plane. I know years ago Bose QuietComforts were often considered to have the best noise cancellation, and yes even by audiophiles who would also note they may not be worth their price in sound quality because Bose. Since then though there have been many noise canceling headphones and many improvements in them. And apparently according to Jude from head-fi, the Sony MDR1000x's are even better than the Bose QC35's at least as far as noise canceling is concerned.

MooTatersYeah, different headphones serve different purpose. While you're in a trip, especially on air plane, comfort + quiet environment > sound quality. And @blueberrymann Sony 1000x and 1000xm2 doesn't sound like beats, it's much better than beats headphones, just go to a store and try them on. NC is no longer a marketing term now, it actually block most of noises.

chekhanThis is an outside of the box, somewhat more expensive answer for you. I am one of those weird headphone people who really like Final Audio. I have had 3 of their models, the Sonorous III, IV, and VI (my end game closed back which I use at work every day). They are not "reference" sound signature style phones, they are a bit more "Fun" sounding than that and can easily be driven by anything. They are somewhere between 8 and 16 ohms depending on the model. I have heard great things about the II's, which are around $200. The step up from those are the III's which go for around $400. That's where I started and obviously I liked them enough to upgrade. You can sometimes get a good deal if you wait for AC Gears website to have some coupon codes (the black friday one was 15% off everything).

AbhiramCIf you like heavy bass, the RBH Beryllium 45mm drivers are awesome. I purchase mine direct from RBH. It comes in a nice package with case, custom cable and mic cable. The earpads are thick and comfortable too.
