Are these still notorious for being hard to drive like the original TRP Series of headphones? Planning on buying these or the HE-4XX if they ever get dropped again.

SegWheyI have the HE-4XX too, and yes T-X0 like the original T50rp, is harder to drive than HE-4XX.

SegWheyJust received my drop today. I'm using a Fostex HP-A3 DAC-AMP and it is pushing it OK but I notice it does need to be cranked about 30% more compared to a couple other dynamic driver phones I own. I was expecting this since the impedance is a few more ohms and it is typical of magnetic planars needing more juice. These are my first planar phones. I notice crisper mids and highs and the bass while good and low is not as hard-hitting to me. I'll probably get a stronger tube amp later to see how these play out. These are heavier cans as expected for magnetic planars but the earpads are comfy.

G8torInteresting... I currently have the Schiit Fulla 2 as my DAC/AMP. Since I have the Little Dot 1+ shipping today, is the LD enough to power these?

SegWheyI can't talk Schiit since I have not tried any but I hear they push pretty good. Here's what I noticed comparing the T-XO on two amps I'm using on a FLAC file of David Bowie's "Sound and Vision" which has a lot of bass guitar and high notes: they sound nice on the Fostex amp but I have to dial it way up >75%. I switched to a Denon PMA-50 which can add gain to the headphone out. While it does add volume I'm getting some distortion in the low end and vocals are a bit muddier sounding than the Fostex amp. I have no experience with tube amps but I'm looking into those now.

SegWheyI received my T-X0 today and own the LD I+ with some tubeys, and yes, it's more than enought. The LD I+ delivers plenty of power on low impedance headphones, and matches pretty well with these, but also manages to drive higher impedance cans like the HD6XX pretty well. Interestingly, volume is almost equal for both on high gain, even given the huge impedance difference (50 and 300 ohms, respectively). BTW you should use high gain on most full-sized cans unless they have low impedance & high sensitivity, the low gain setting comes into play with IEMs, but this amp is not the best for IEMs, in my opinion.
I strongly suggest you to buy some tubes, my two favorite onew are Mullard M8161 & Voskhod 6ZH1-EV, both great but different. They require some burn-in to reach their full potential, specially the Voskhods because they have some background noise for the first 50 hours or so. For further info about tube rolling, check this post: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/little-dot-tube-amps-vacuum-tube-rolling-guide.563884/

Eli35Thanks man! That was very informative. BTW does your unit produce crackling noices everytime it is on idle or when I play a very low volume music? Because mine does and it was irritating to the point where I bought some contact cleaners on amazon. The crackling noice only happens when I plugged in the Voskhod and GE EF95 tubes with the jumper switches set to the right confuguation.

SegWheyMy Voskhod also make some noise, but way less than initially. First time I heard them they made a lot of background random noises, like "clicks" and "pops", but after 50+ burn-in hours (anything special, just normal listening) it has significantly decreased and their sound has improved (specially soundstage).
The most silent tubes I've heard are the Mullard M8161, they have 0 noise or hiss, dead silent. I also like their sound, a bit more intimate and brighter than the Voskhod, while the latter have a bit more soundstage, more clarity and better mids.

SegWheyThe GE JAN-5654W (milspec) tubes I'm currently using in the Little Dot 1+ in conjunction with my Fostex amp are doing well with no background noise. I referred to the tube rolling guide at Head-Fi here:(https://www.head-fi.org/threads/little-dot-tube-amps-vacuum-tube-rolling-guide.563884/) which gives a good list of compatible tubes in each of the EF91,92 or 95 series.

SegWheyYes they are hard to drive, you need a good amp. Personally using Schiit Vali 2, which has enough grunt on the high output setting...
