Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.

Removable cables for the TH-X00 line is one of those features that the community never stopped pushing for and we never stopped requesting. This feature is so important to the community and to the headphones, that we renamed them: TR-X00 (The “R” is for removable.) If you haven’t been following the journey of the first Mahogany version of the headphone into the Purpleheart and Ebony wood variants, we offer three different wood types for different aesthetics and slight sound signature variation. However, since launch- the most requested (demanded!) change has been the ability to remove or swap cables. Why? I’m so glad you asked! If you develop any issues with the cables over time, you can replace them. If you need a specialized cable to connect to gear or wish to have a personalized cable, you have options. (In the discussion comments which follow, please let us know if you modified your TH-X00 to accept removable cables and how you are using them now…Matt Takaichi is paying attention and sourcing cables for the community. We’ve transferred the comments from the original headphone drop pages so that none of your contributions have been lost.) Thank you for your support of this headphone, it has been a true success due to community feedback and participation.
FYI, this latest change is the only one that we have planned for the series, we don’t have any other surprises on the horizon at the moment. (I know somebody is going to ask me!) For now, the time has come and the TR-X00 is available for ordering on June 1st!
Here's a personal share...headphone adventures in 2014: I was attending a large headphone meet-up and Will Bright was mysteriously walking around with a brown paper bag... Inside? A very early prototype Fostex TH-X00. He pulled them out and let me try them. Really nice-looking…no logos at the time, light blonde wood. But- boomy bass for my taste. (Same issue I had with the original Fostex TH-900.) I gave some feedback and thanked him for letting me listen to them. They were “beautiful but not my preferred sound signature due to the amount and character of the bass”.
2015: Fast-foward to a mini-meet and someone had a brand new production pair of TH-X00 after they had just shipped the first batch. “Well, they are still really good-looking. I might as well listen for a quick check just to confirm I don’t need them…wait, what?!!?” “These sound like totally different headphones!” "Massdrop was able to tweak these THAT much??”
This was the second Massdrop Collaboration product that I heard. (AKG K7XX was the first.) Great improvements with both of these headphones and I see a pattern. I understood what Will Bright was up to and became a fan of the Massdrop Collaborations program. Now I am a part of things, of course... :)
I just wish Fostex offered a service to upgrade the cable on existing units. It's not worth buying a whole new one just for the cable and modded ones don't always turn out great (not to mention it voids the warranty).
Is massdrop late to the game? What’s worth the premium over the 610s or the Teaks?
Typical Massdrop ...
Chan’s work is ahead of the game, massdrop is late to the party.
