[Updated July 24, 2017]
Hi All - I have another update for you all. Everyone who opted-in early for the first round of shipments was shipped their pad . . . and then maybe an extra one. It seems that our friends at Klymit, in their rush to ship this out, accidentally double-shipped some. By now you should all have received an email from our team, kindly asking you to return the pad. We'll of course pay for shipping, and we'll send you a $5 coupon. Please consider that the second pad you received was actually intended for another member, who has been waiting just as long as you for their pad, and they will have to sleep on the dirt until they get their pad.
[Updated July 19, 2017] Thank you all for communicating with us during the process of developing these pads. I'll be honest - our team here is not really set up to handle a drop like this, and we've struggled to promptly respond to every one with a consistent, accurate message. Much of that blame falls to me and so I am deeply sorry.  By now, most pads have been delivered. The last shipment will ship shortly, if it hasn't already. For the few people who have had issues with being cancelled off, thank you for your patience while we take care of you. We have received your comments to Community Service and will help you out, even if you get a generic response or slightly conflicting message the first time around.
There is one issue remaining - the Long/Wide pads have a bulge in the top chamber. It is about 3" thick there, whereas the rest of the pads is 2" thick. This is not a defect with just a few pads, as all of the Long pads are like this. We didn't realize the design would create a bump so pronounced. However, since the bulge is where a pillow would go, it actually is positive feature for some owners. I have slept on my Long pad four nights last week, and didn't notice the bulge once I had the pad properly inflated. That being said, this was not the intended design and so we have been working to come up with a fix for those of us who are displeased with the bulge.
search
search
Since the issue surfaced, the engineers at Klymit has been testing a way to add an extra seam (or baffle) in the middle of that bulge, effectively reducing it to about 2" thick. They can do this in their Utah facility and are confident in the results. I am working with my Community Service team to accommodate exchanges for those of you who are unhappy with your pad. To date only five people out of hundreds have asked for an exchange, just for reference. The adjusted pads may be shipped as early as this week or as late as next week. I was hoping to have them sent out by Monday but it looks like the manual process is more intensive than I originally thought. While we are processing these exchanges, please feel free to use your current pad even though you'll be returning it shortly. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding.
Thank you again, Danny
My earlier messages remain below:
[updated July 10] To Those Who Joined This Drop,
**UPDATE - the pads started to ship on Friday, July 7. You should get tracking info in the next day or two. We've had about 75% of our members respond so far, with 100% of the respondents opting-in for the pads. We still need to reach the other 25% to confirm they still want the pad and we'll mail them out in the coming days. Thanks! ** I need you to check your inbox immediately as our Community Support Team is sending an email with instructions on how to still receive your pads. FTC regulations mandate that if our shipping is sufficiently delayed, then we must certify that you are still interested in buying the product. So, we have made a very easy Google opt-in form for you to stay in the drop. But YOU must act soon to keep your spot. Per FTC, the default is to cancel unless you opt in by a certain date.  The earlier you opt in, the earlier you should get your pad. We will ship out in intervals as we reach certain number of confirmations from you over the next two weeks. You have until July 12 to opt-in and our final shipment will be by July 18.  I recognize that this is an inconvenience to everyone - you have already been waiting patiently for several months for this, and if you haven't cancelled yet, it's a clear sign that you want to still get your pad. However, we must adhere to this law and are trying to make it as easy as possible for you. Our Community Support Team is aware of the situation and ready to handle any questions. I'll be monitoring the discussion here and will respond quickly to any of your questions, even over the holiday weekend.  For some background, we had an original ship date of June 2 but had to push that back to June 30. As of last week we were on track to receive the shipment from the factory when a slight delay overseas means that we can only ship next week at the earliest - just barely past the FTC deadline. It's prime backpacking season and I want to get these pads to you as soon as possible. So please check your email and follow the instruction for opting-in.
Thank you and please post any questions below.  -Danny (the guy responsible for this pad . . . and the delay . . . and the bump in the Large pad)

DannyMilksDanny, I have not received an email yet (also not in spam folder) to my email address on my Massdrop Account . Please use this post as notification that I want to opt in and receive the pad. I will continue to look for emails from Massdrop, and should I get one, reply as you request.
I opt in - I am interested in receiving the pad asap as I have a trip scheduled in early to mid July.
If you cannot use this post as my opt in notification, please let me (us) know. Thanks!

I also followed the link (in the email) to the opt-in page and have successfully updated my preference to keep my order active. 👍🏼 I, for one, don't mind the wait as I have no special events planned. I appreciate you taking the time to keep us updated about this drop. Looking forward to delivery! 😀

DannyMilksVery disappointed with the way this last delay was handled. I don't see how you didn't know that you were not going to have product to ship today until today. I skipped over a sale on a similar item at Costco last week thinking that you were going to make the date. I want the pad, but I wanted it for a trip on the 15th of July. Now you say you can't even ship until then. Are there pads shipped from China already? Why do you think the delivery is going to be made?

EyelootI understand your frustration and thank you for posting. The pads have shipped from China and are arriving at Klymit's facility in Utah on July 5. Klymit is shipping to you directly from there, and will do so at intervals throughout the next two weeks. So, if you opt-in over the weekend, you're pad will be shipped in the first batch next week.
We'll continue to ship out in batches once we hit a certain number of opt-ins. The July 15th ship date is the *final* ship date, for those that wait until the very end to opt-in. We want to give people a 2+ week window to contact us, hence that later ship date. Hope that adds a bit of clarity.
TL:DR - opt-in this weekend and your pad will be shipped next week, in time for you to get it before you next trip.

DannyMilksHi-- It's been a couple of days since I responded to Massdrop's email, filling out the requested Google form to indicate that I would like to stay with the drop, and continue waiting, but my status has not updated. Perhaps this is just a glitch caused by the weekend/holiday. (I have two pads on order, and may have been the first person to place an order in the original drop). I've no problem with the request. The form was easy to fill out, and it was understandable as a way of complying with a law designed to protect the consumer.

DannyMilksI have to say, when I looked up the UPS tracking number to see it was SmartPost... on top of all the other delays it's going to be delayed yet again for the SmartPost/ USPS mess.. wow.. I can understand saving a bit on the shipping if this was an on-time delivery, but at this case the couple of bucks for a UPS delivery.. It's going to be hard for me to ever participate in another drop like this where something has to be made month(s) in the future. And now I'm hearing about this "bump" on the pad where the pillow is supposed to go..

ducmanI was using delaminating as an example if you'd read in context. When inflated, the bump has some characteristics of a delaminated pad. Are you holding one of the defective ones in your hands? I am. And cutting a pad shorter from the top is a lame idea. Putting a button or whatever that suggestion was is also not feasible to say the least. Some passed through qc and got shipped and sent defective. Im not going to mess around with a defective pad. Until you are holding 1 in your hands please pass on any sugesstions you haven't tried and been successful with. And if you'd read other posts in context you'd see mine and very few others have this bump. The others do not. It is not how it was designed. It is a manufacturing and qc screw up. I hope yours is not defective with the bump. Its going to be a longer wait after waiting 5 months already. Just because it has the v chambers does not mean there are separate chambers. Like a thermarest there is 1 inflate nozzle. The whole pad is connected. The defective bump cannot be inflated or deflated apart from the pad. Rendering most suggestions unusable at best.

There are short, regular, and long and wide. It's also not a "bump". It is a bump. More of a basketball shape as bump is on bottom as well. If you are fortunate to get a pad without defect I'm kind of jealous. As for the short and regulars I have no idea if those have defects.

VajtagalThere should be a baffle right where my finger is. If not, the pad bulges out to about 3.5" thick, where as the rest of the pad is 2.5" thick. This may appeal to some people as it is where your head would lie. However, it is not the intention. I tried to iron a seem here, but it didn't not work due to the insulation between the two layers of fabric.
search
The insulation does not go all the way to the top edge, so I was able to iron that bump to be smaller. Probably took 3/4" off the top . . .
search
. . . which reduced the bump to about 3" tall instead of 3.5".

DannyMilksI got a reply from support and it appears their people have not spoken with you. Their only option was full refund. You've stated here we can get a new non defective pad. I want a new pad. I replied stating I want a new pad. Is this going to be a nasty back and forth where my options are keep defective pad or return for return? Neither are what I want.

DannyMilksWell I can wait til Mon or Tues for it to ship. No need to send me yours, that's a wonderful offer though. However seeing you have the defective one in the pics, and you tried lessening the bump I'll pass. I'm just getting a bit of a frustrated edge thinking after waiting 5 months I can either have no pad, or a defective pad. If it will be sent next week then that's cool. Manufacturing defects happen, just a bummer that only 3 have been brought to your attention, and mine is 1 of those 3 out of hundreds. Phooey. It's been handled well though so far. So I'll try patience. Thanks for all you've done.

It's not supposed to mate. I happen to have the x pillow. As the bump on some of the pads is a manufacturing defect and qc fail it's not supposed to mate. The pad is missing a weld. It wasn't designed to have a bump the bump is a screw up.

DannyMilksHey Danny! Can you please check on these 2 orders (MD-34209-1698897 & MD-34209-1700895). I did pay for TWO pads in each order but unfortunately received only ONE in each order. I already mailed the support but haven't received a reply yet.
Thanks for looking into these orders.

DannyMilksMy pad has the bump also. While I see it to be a defect, I don't want to go through the pain and suffering to swap it out. With the Klymit pilow , it is workable.
However, there is one thing I am peeved about. It does appear the valves on the pad were enlarged a bit compared to previous review. As a result, the exped schnozzles DONT work with the pad (the connector just falls out of the valve and doesn't lock in). I bought it long ago when they were on sale on Amazon (right after I joined the drop) and can't return it now. The money I spent on the schnozzle is down the drain unless I can come up with a hack to make it work.

DannyMilksHello. It is Wednesday. I see no progress on replacement pads, not heard a word. Please respond as from my end it looks like after last week assuring those who got the defective pads they would be replaced, now appears we are stuck with them as not one word since. This will seriously affect my view of massdrop if defective product will not be replaced and made right. Danny or somebody please have the courtesy to pop in here and update those of us who got defective pads. I'm trying to be nice about it but as it's hard enough to get anything worked out thru customer service I am posting here.

Rival178Um no. A) I am relaxed. B) a company sold me a defective product. After initial assurances that the defective product would be replaced I have heard NOTHING. NOT A WORD. That is shitty business practice. C) I have made multiple attempts to contact support. Nothing. Again nor so hot business practice. I happen.to really like md. Saw and read the neutral and negative reviews out there. As I've only had good experiences with 10 or so purchases I thought the bad reviews were folks who didn't get how md works. I'm taking 2nd look at critical reviews concerning getting defective product and only being able to email, no phone number is out there, and then support cuts them off leaving them with product they can't use or sell or get a refund for. It is completely reasonable to be concerned at this point that I am screwed and out $80. So kindly don't tell me to relax unless you're the head honcho telling me my new pad has been shipped.

Vajtagalphew, you came through. I believe you maybe the most predictable person I have seen. I was able to write down what I thought you response would be and only got about 70% correct, you threw a couple curve balls in. I guess I should have used "bump" (with quotes) then my average would have went up by at least 10% on being able to predict your response.
thanks for all the fun!!

MikeMDI wasn't attacking, I was baited and other. Responding only to let them know I didn't appreciate it, and point out the fact they've never actually seen me. I am quite frustrated at this point. As some let Danny know they had defective pads, he quickly replied that replacement pads would be sent out early next week. Then not another word. That would have been Mon 17 July and Tues 18 July. Both of those dates came and went without any further word from anybody. That isn't the best business practice. I now have a useless pad i really looked forward to getting and using. And from appearances to this point one could draw the conclusion that I'm stuck with a useless pad. I read all the reviews I could find about md when I joined up. It was mostly good, with the exception of folks who got defective products and though they tried valiantly they either couldn't get a functioning product or a refund, or both. I noted that in the back of my mind and joined a number of drops and had zero bad experiences. Had quite good experiences, after price checking , found a number of good deals and joined those. Then this 1 drop shows all the earmarks of the issues those who left less than satisfied reviews . If that is jumping to conclusions in your book, it's cutting problems off at the pass in mine. I was very excited to get this pad. To get 1 of the few pads that have the defect was disappointing at 1st, but with assurances from Danny that it would be replaced I thought ok next week. He can't control defects. But then poof not another word? That's unsettling or disturbing. I contacted Klymit support and they respond. With real emails that show they read yours, and are addressing problems. She asked for pics, I sent. Feedback too. So please some one show me you're fixing this rather serious problem. All I want is the item i ordered and paid for, in non defective form.

VajtagalIt turns out that all the Long pads are like this, not just yours or the few others that have posted here. However, it seems like most people actually prefer the bump. Still, it wasn't intentionally and we will accommodate everyone who wants an exchange. Klymit is able to add an extra baffle to reduce the bump and we are working out the logistics of the exchange. In the meantime, you can use your pad as is. I shared more details in the stickied post above. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-klymit-ultralight-v/talk/1738732

DannyMilksHas there been any further discussion about the inflation valve changes? Looks like the valve diameter was increased which doesn't allow the exped schnozzle to stay in place as it did with other klymit pads. At least two other people in addition to me have posted about the same problem so far.

DannyMilksCongratulations massdrop, you are now the most clueless company I have ever dealt with. I don't like the defective bump at the head of the large pads. Its obviously missing a weld. The pictures from the drop page, the picture on the storage sack, and the picture from woodcutter all show how Danny himself said that is how the pad should look. Before deciding to call the defect a design element. Well, to my surprise today i found a package in my mailbox from massdrop. No notification or tracking info, just oh look a package. Identified on outside as a size large klymit pad. Guess what folks?? Its the same defective pad. Now I have 2 detective useless pads. I pulled it out, unrolled just enough to see if it too was defective. Yup it is. No i have 2 pads md please send return labels ASAP as 2 useless pads are twice as useless. Wow I am trying to wrap my head around this but can't. And I am smarter than the average bear. Please stop sending me defective products!

DannyMilksI'm not happy with the pad, I really wanted it to work but the bump is uncomfortable. The bump may protrude only an inch but it's on both sides and pushes it up from the bottom as well. The xpillow does alleviate this issue if placed directly over the bump but hangs over the top edge of the pad in an awkward spot. If I want to use the pillow in a different position the bump gets in the way.
I understand this was not a defect per say but it was made incorrectly based on photos we were shown and compared to other Klymitt pads. It would be ideal if I could receive another pad from a run made correctly but wouldnt want to wait for the same lengthy amount of time as the first. If the process klymitt is working on to alter the current pads is adequate I would be OK going that route.
Thanks for your help!

DannyMilksFWIW - I was grumpy about the delay and communication frustrations, but to be honest, when I signed up, I hadn't taken into consideration that it is a brand new product. I feel bad for the folks who ordered the long version. I'm very happy with my regular pad. The flat valve is nice, there is nothing weird about the headrest, the pad inflated quickly and easily and was comfortable and quiet when I used it last weekend. It is hot as Hades now, so insulation isn't needed but I'm sure it will be fine later in the season.
