is there any reason to get this over the jotunheim? I don't really know what I'm talking about so if anyone could do a comparison that would be helpful

kevinhJotunheim + DAC costs $499, this costs $379, so price is a factor. Spec-wise, the Jot's DAC is a step ahead of the sDAC, being balanced and dual; amps are similar but Jot has more gain (if that matters you), both have similar output power.

kevinhI think that both will be great, but I think that the Jotunheim is still the winner. Someone on youtube was saying that between the liquid carbon and the Schiit Mjolnir, the Liquid Carbon have less details than the Mjolnir. And guys on youtube says that the Jotunheim are great with the Massdrop 6XX... In fact if we compare the bare specs, they seems pretty equal on the amp side, just a little edge for the Jotunheim. But, we don't know if it is a class A, AB or class D amp vs the Schiit that assume is an AB by their products line. The Schiit cost 120$ more, but you do get a balanced dac with 1 chip per channel at the beginning all the way to the output and a balanced XLR preout as well! So this is a good solution for the Massdrop X JBL LSR30X powered speakers. I think that with the Schiit, you can use just the dac to feed something else ( like powered speakers ) without using the amp but I am not sure about that. The Schiit Jotunheim have a 5 year warranty vs 1 year for the Cavalli Liquid Carbon X (LCX) with the Grace Standard DAC (SDAC). It also seems that both have the ability to transform the unbalanced rca input into a balanced and for the rest, lets say... just playing music! At the end, for the amp section, it looks just like a battle of gain stage technology and their both special topology. So, take it with a grain of salt, this is just my analogy on two products that I didn't listen yet, but without A/B listening, we certainly know that we can't ear the difference : ) So, If you don't bother much with the magic of a balanced dac vs unbalanced and don't need the XLR output, just save your 120$ man! And just go with the LCX+SDAC!

The drop is for 379.99$ The shiit Jotunheim with the dac is 499$ So 499-379,99=119,01$ But shipping price are different. Massdrop shipping charge to Canada is 25,25$ So, total of 405,24$ If we add the exchange rate for Canada as an example, at a rate of : 1.2341 , = 500.11$ CAD + another between 25 and 45 for clearance fees So we talk about 525.11$ to 545.11$CAD max. And Schiit cheapest price for me is: USPS Priority International $54.09 So schiit total cost: 499+54.09=553.09US X 1.2341=682.57CAD + 25$=707.57$CAD 707.57-545.11=162.46CAD of final difference between both. So I will say that the Jotunheim to me is still superior and worth the extra price in terms of specs and features, but I finally decided to keep my 162$ in my pocket with me : ) and purchased this product instead.

TatonisBut if you only need an amp... 405 Us VS 455 US shipped to canada, I also waited for this to drop before making a decision, went with the Jot because xlr out, more power and shipping now vs May 22 is worth 50 dollars to me. And always go usps even though it’s more expensive to avoid as much border fees as possible. Paid nothing on my Fulla 2. Will definitely join the drop if the LCDX drops again without the dac for 300.

dabbaranksJust wanted to update since USPS came through again, Jotunheim took 5 days to Ontario, NO FEES. USPS is literally been the MVP for me for the past 10 years.
