KvGNIf you are OK with a single ended DAC, then the Topping D50. I like it because it is very clean and transparent... In my opinion, if you want to color your sound it should be colored by an EQ or the headphones themselves... if you have headphones with a particular trait you are trying to enhance or subdue then do it with EQ, or at worst at the amp; a DAC should perform a true transformation of the original encoded bits. The D50 can be had for $250, or I think $199 when it drops here on MD.
WOLFGANG420Yep, they have lots of highly regarded options. I haven’t heard them myself, but certainly they have a large and loyal following so I am certain Schiit has good sounding products. I mention the D50 because that is one I have and thus can attest to.
jsmiller58I have a MODI UBER,MAGNI 3,LOKI and a SYS w/cables and it sounds good enough for my desk. All under 400bucks. Phones are massdrop 6xx,700 senn. ath AD1000x ,A900z and they all sound good, i also have a Alex CTH.
jsmiller58Well thanks my point was that Schiit works pretty well with all different cans and can be used as a pre amp for powered speakers {JBL lsr 30x ]GOOD LUCK.
WOLFGANG420Understood! Was just saying that you have a nice sounding (pun intended!) system there.
For now I have all the hardware I need, and a lot more than I really need. 1 amp/DAC combo (NFB 11.38), two stand alone DACs (Topping D50, with a DX7s on order) and 5 standalone amps (LCX, CTH, Little Dot MK II, and Aune X7s, with the 789 on order). I only listen to headphones, by the way.
If I need to get new gear I will consider what Schiit has on offer at the time, but I expect to be a while, and in reality will likely be selling stuff before I buy more!
