Which gain setting for hd 6xx?

BunBakeIt all depends of the voltage of your input source. If your input source is below 1V (like an iPhone or iPad) then use the high gain mode (6.5x). If your input source is higher than 1V, (like a DAC or Cd player which normally outputs at 2V or 2.1V), then use the low gain mode (2.4x). This comment applies to the normal gain edition of the O2 (Low 2.4x/high 6.5x). If however you buy the medium gain edition (low 1x/ high 3.3x), you may leave it on high gain mode (3.3x) all the time with your HD6xx.
the rule is simple: never try to exceed 7V with the O2. Example: voltage input 1V multiplied by gain 6.5x = 6.5V < 7V. other example: voltage input 2.1V multiplied by high gain on medium gain version 3.3x = 6.93V < 7V. (Maximum limit achieved...) If you exceed 7V the amp will heavily distort, even at low volume. Hope it helps.

tessierpgInteresting. Could you explain where the maximum 7v is derived from and does this rule apply to all amps?

rodizzleAs far as I know, it’s the limitation specific to the O2 design. Other amps may have a different limitation according to the specifics of their internal design and related power supply. I am not an engineer nor a amp designer, but an O2 owner...
