Got recently O2 Desktop Edition - 220 V - Standard Gain (2.5x Low, 6.5x High) . Was afraid that they could be too much for HD6XX and AKG K712 Pro. But they just matching excellent. No complain at all. If listening directly from laptop - 2.5x Low is a little bit not enough, have to switch to 6.5x High. For all other DAC's 2.5x Low is excellent. P.S. was surprised that O2's size is smaller than I expected. Overall I am very happy with O2 and HD6XX. Thank you Massdrop!

OleksaCould I ask what you think about the O2 and the AKG 712 Pro? I have the same setup, got both last week, except I am not crazy impressed unfortunately... I went from some $100 Polk headphones to these and besides it sounding more crisp and I suppose more of a soundstage, that is about it. I thought it was going to be like going from 1080p to 4k but I so far have not noticed that much of a difference. Not sure if a DAC would improve anything, I have a Sound card on my PC.

BigCapitalist7 I am sure that difference is there, but of course it could never be like sky and earth. Plus, headphones may sound better or worse on different genres of music. Also you already got used to your old setup. Just wait a little bit, get used to the new one :). In my case I had AudioTechnica ATH-M50 and when got AKG K712 I also didn’t notice that much difference. But now after several months I appreciate AKG more and more. So I am very happy with my AKG K712.
Besides AKG K712 I have Sennheiser HD6XX, and AudioTechnica ATH-M50, and also some Chinese earbuds (around 5 nos.) which I bought inspired by https://www.head-fi.org forums. From all of them AKG K712 is the best in resolution, air, and crispness. I like them very much, but I cannot listen to them for a long time: 1 hour is maximum, after I feel discomfort. People say that this is normal with high detail headphones.
In comparison HD6XX is slightly warmer, feels like more punching but probably less detailed bass; mids are slightly more defined, and heights looks like more rounded (all is very subjective). Yes, they are different. In general, if switching for the comparison between AKG K712 and HD6XX, AKG may win in short term because of its resolution and air. But for a long run HD6XX is a champion – they provide a very pleasant listening without any fatigue. So if you want to impress your guests with the sound – then maybe better to choose AKG K712, but if you want to listen to the music for a whole evening- then HD6XX. AKG is more analytical and Sennheiser is more musical, but the difference is not that big as it may seem from such “definition”.
Now, regarding O2 Amp. I feel that it has no effect on sound signature – it is just completely neutral for me. O2 just gives enough power to drive my headphones from a laptop and that all. And believe this is more than enough.

OleksaThanks for the reply! I am new to the audio side of PC's so I guess hearing everyone talk in detail about all sorts of different headphones while I was researching for a pair made me expect more than I should have. I can say after listening to them a lot more they sound clean, and when watching my favorite tv show like The Grand Tour, the sounds of the cars come to life like I haven't heard them before. Gaming wise I think they excel, I can hear more and I have noticed that certain sounds sound more realistic than on my previous headphones, such as in the distance or sounds in the upper range like guns. The only thing I feel like it lacks is a tad more bass. I will probably end up getting the 6xx's in a few months anyway and try them out.

BigCapitalist7When I listen to the HD6XX I love them, when I switching to K712 I love them too, I really cannot say which one is better. Also please remember that if you want better setup over this, a general rule is: every 10% improvement will cost you double price. That's why I stopped already buying new headphones :). I am satisfied with what I already have.

BigCapitalist7By the way, I like Metal music (death, doom, black) that's why bass is also very important for me. I feel more bass in HD6XX, but although bass in K712 may seem to be less punchy, but it is more detailed from other side. So both choices are good depending from the mood or even from particular music composition.
Also this helped me a lot in making my choices: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/headphones-for-metal-music-ultimate-solution.715478/ And you can see there that K712 was appreciated more that HD650. And finally leap said: "Overall, in my opinion, 712 today are the best cans for heavy genres on the middle level "
