archeionHey Archeion (your username threw me off for a sec, my friend has a Shaman in WoW with nearly the same name)
Our server records show he edited his posts. That said, I was checking the discussion before he made those edits and he was mostly concerned about some parts not matching up with the original BOM ( rightfully so, same stuff as @millifoo laid out and I addressed in my last big post) and the manufacturing quality of these units (being made in China vs America).
While I don't expect there'll be much of a difference in manufacturing quality, I do think there will always be people who are willing to pay a premium for an equivalent (and often better) American made product.
We're working with a Chinese audiophile company to make this O2 as affordable as possible to get more people into Audiophile gear and grow the community. I got into this stuff when I was ~12 (I never give out my Head-Fi handle because most of my first posts were literally "I'm 12 what is this" first day on the internet garbage) and it's made my life better in lots of ways. For me, the more people who care enough to invest in some decent audio gear, the better, and I'm excited to be working on projects that help lower the barrier of entry.
Anyway, long answer to a simple question, but ask anyone at Massdrop, they'll tell you brevity is not one of my redeeming features.
torymullerFor a sec I thought you guys were confirming that this amp will indeed be built to spec.
No dissrepect but from what I can see, all of you Massdropers are sales & marketing people with no industrial eng / project mgt experience. So even you do give us a verbal confirmation, it wouldn't inspire much confidence.
EDIT: especially because we are talking about some unknown China's manufacturer here.
uloginThat's a rather unfair statement.
Even within our buying and marketing team, everyone here have years of industry experience prior joining the company. Needless to say, we are all very aware of the work, effort, and resources needed to make this product great.
We definitely have a very strong bench within the organization. In fact, the Massdrop product manager that's leading this project holds degree in computer and electrical engineering, as well as multiple years of experience in semi-conductor industry. Just an interesting trivia I thought I'd throw out there :)
nelsonWell, I am pretty sure that someone -- probably that Tyll dude from Mayflower -- is going to acquire one of these and then do a tear down for us. Let's hope it does not turn into a PR (or even legal) disaster eventually...
uloginWe welcome scrutiny :)
We wouldn't offer this product with a 2 year warranty if we are not confident about the built quality or the reliability of this amplifier.
nelson"no industrial eng / project mgt experience" - that's just one person's (biased) opinion. You guys are doing a great job at Massdrop. I already have an O2 but I have decided to join the drop to show my support.
