I'm thinking that these guys are hard of hearing. I trolled through a BUNCH of USER (i.e. CUSTOMER) requests and there was a constant drumbeat of Power/Inputs at REAR, outputs on the FRONT. What do we get? Looks suspiciously like a power jack on the FRONT. My guess is that they've already cut the panels and this was NEVER an option for this FIRST attempt to get it WRONG). It's tempting to cancel the order and redo it when/if they get it right. Very tempting.

merddynemrysPerhaps you should read Will's posts a few more time. On the introduction page of the O2, and on the first 2 pages of this discussion, it was stated that the changes up to discussion are COSMETIC only. On page 45, Will stated it is too late for any major changes, without lengthy delay, due to retooling and contract rewritten. Massdrop MAY have another drop with the DIY kit for the most popular changes (power in back, RCA, 1/4 plug...etc). There's another possibility that there maybe another O2 drops incorporating all of those changes. You can certainly wait for the future drop if DIY is not an option for you. I, for one, glad that Massdrop is sticking to the reference design and providing us a well-proven amplifier at a great price.

merddynemrysOr you know, the license doesn't allow it. and in order to actually make an O2 you can't deviate from that license.
No selling derivative works, plain and simple, JDS labs is technically breaking the license in order to do this.
They did say they will be offering DIY kits to remedy this situation in the future, since you can technically mod your O2 all you want, you just can't sell it.
kravlinHey, saw a couple things in your post that I've seen from a few other people floating around this thread which look incorrect. In the spirit of informing the community, I'd like to clarify.
A few people are talking about how moving the power to the rear of the unit (or having RCA inputs, or rear 3.5m inputs) is a violation of the O2's license. This not necessarily correct.
The O2 license protects the PCB design and the components with which the amplifier is meant to be built. Changes to the PCB design will break the license, but JDS labs and Mayflower figured out a solution. Instead of changing the PCB, they solder jumper wires to the appropriate PCB connectors and run those wires to the back of the enclosure where they place inputs. Thus you have rear power without altering the PCB and thus the license remains satisfied.
Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions.

Willso why wasn't that a consideration for this drop as is was pretty unanimous that that's what people wanted?

richietenenbaumSee Will's previous post:
In the course of this discussion we’ve seen tons of people requesting additional/different features like rear power input, rear RCA inputs, 1/4” headphone jacks, etc. While we’d like to add options like this, our manufacturing plan for these O2s has a tight schedule and any major deviations from the original design would increase wait times meaningfully (changes proposed, plan re-done, contracts re-negotiated, etc).

WillCool. I always took it as "can't modify ever", glad to know there are actually ways to get around it.

Will"The O2 license protects the PCB design and the components with which the amplifier is meant to be built."
I am very curious about this. The specified Kobiconn 163-7620-E and listed alternatives (Kobiconn 163-7625-E, CUI PJ-002A, Multicomp MJ-179PH and MJ-180PH) are all through hole components. I didn't see a panel mounted DC jack listed, unless I missed it. In this case, does this mean JDS Labs and Mayflower are not following the specs and license by not using these components when they sell a rear power jack O2? Or are they attaching these to the rear panel somehow (because there aren't any mounting holes on the PC board at the rear?)? I ask because following the components used in the build seems to be a big deal regarding complying with the license.
A comment on rear power - running wires carrying an AC signal across the PCB will introduce EMI, which could affect performance. If I remember correctly, NwAvGuy does suggest using a twisted pair of wires running along the power management side of the PCB to minimize the EMI on the more sensitive parts of the PCB.
