This or the Magni 3(and probably Modi 2 later if I decide I want a DAC or need?) my setup is Macbook Pro, Ipod Classic, basic z170 motherboard soundcard, iphone 7(guess thunderbolt to usb then usb to RCA would work?)
With dt880 250ohm, k553 and an HD600/650 in the future.

E111Grace SDAC + Magni 3 sounds better to me. But if you don't have hard to drive headphone, I don't seem to get the point of spending more than just $150 for this.

E111If you already have dt880 250 and planning to buy those Sennheiser cans, I would recommend going for the Magni 3 just to make sure you have enough power for them.

gobinAgreed. Would like to see schiit sell the modi 2 uber for $99 or come out with the modi 3 for $99 (don't think they are going to do either).
If not then just get the cheaper SDAC (or other good cheap dac) instead and pair that with the magni 3 since it's a much better amp than the o2. I would rather spend the extra $50 for that combo.
Then there is the aune x1s, dac wise would be best and comes with optical and coaxial in. Amp wise will probably lose to the schiit magni 3. Thus I think I am not going to buy an aune x1s, until they come out with their next generation and hope massdrop sells it for like $200.

E111Would be nice if the audio quest dragonfly black had rca outputs, if it did I would probably recommend that. Be cool to use that on the go and at a desktop output to something like a schiit magni 3.
For really cheap the fiio D3 has good reviews on amazon. If you were to spend more money I would just get something like a schiit modi 2.

Z0d1AcInstead of the dragonfly you can buy an inexpensive DAP with a line-out and a usb DAC features and use it on the go as well as connected to your pc and desktop amplifier. For example, Fiio X3 II is about $140 on amazon now. I think it's a really good deal because of its versatility .

Z0d1AcWhen used in DAC mode, the Dragonfly Black or Red may be used the way you wish, as the output at full volume in DAC mode becomes a stereo line output, so the only thing you have to do is to get a 3.5mm to RCA cable: a mini 1/8 inch headphone connector plugged into the Dragonfly Black on one end and RCA stereo connectors on the other end to plug into the input if your stereo receiver or active speakers, whatever you are using that has RCA inputs. And it costs only 99$ + 15$ Or less for a good RCA to headphone jack cable. I have the Dragonfly Red and I plug it sometimes in my Massdrop O2 amp the same way.
