I'm very intrigued by these, but the terms "reference" and "monitor" push the wrong buttons for me.
I prefer a more euphoric sound that flows and breathes that tilts towards the warmer, smoother side. I like the Shure 846, Audio 64 U6 (and U10, but not enough bass), some of the EarSonics IEMs, for example.
I have owned some Etymotics in the past, but not the higher end ER4 models. Of the ones I had, I found them to sound too, thin, stiff, and clinical for my liking. I am very curious about the newer ER4XR, however, as the tonal balance seems more up my alley.
I'm wondering where these fall in the spectrum. I would definitely spring for these, but am eager to see more reviews and comparisons.

K.T.NMeasurements show these as even warmer/bassier than ER4XR. They have a broad bass bump centered at sub frequencies that will make then quite lively. I don't expect them to be "clinical" in any way.
