I have a pair of Shure SE 425, will this be a sufficient upgrade for those? My tastes are very eclectic but I generally gravitate to wards progressive house and harder dance music, classic rock, 80s/90s pop and some jazz/blues/classical and some folk music and new age thrown in there as well. Definitely not into any kind of the heavier metals, but I do love Iron Maiden although they have been knocked down to the family friendly bin by now :-p Oh and I also listen to tons of audible audiobooks, so vocal clarity is very important.

BjornHey, also have the 425 as my daily driver, and after a bit of research, have ordered these. Will post back about how much an upgrade they are

BjornI think maybe. The 425 are a pair of sweet mid-focused IEM. I think with the Massdrop Plus you will hear an improvement in terms of soundstage although it is not the best, and more details in the music.

zhouharveyNo bass difference so far? Maybe they will also resolve themselves better with added use?

Bjornbass is much much better with the plus. Overall you will find the 425 very light sounding while the Plus sounds more meaty. But in long run, I still think Plus itself has room for improvement.

zhouharveyExcellent, that might put them in my crosshairs in the future. Just broke one of my 425 earpieces and wondering if I should go a different way next time.

BjornYou can actually buy one side of the ear piece for cheap on ebay or just email Shure.

BjornOk. So a side by side comparison is like chalk and cheese. The Massdrop Plus is a significant leap over the se425 I've got. The bass is a lot more present and layered were bass is in the track compared to the 425. The Massdrop Plus also is generally a better performer at other parts of the audio spectrum. Now for some highs the MDP almost sounds shrill....but never quite shrill enough to become sibliant, so quite controlled. I've found it adds quite a bit of experience to iron maiden that I also love.

zhouharveyThanks, but there are so many Shure fakes floating around ebay, so I don't trust it for buying a replacement. We do have a certified reseller here in my town, but I'm just too broke to buy it right now :-/

BjornIf you can’t tell if it’s fake or not, then it’s as good as authentic so no need to worry. If you can tell it’s fake you get a full refund. So why would you worry. By the way, fake Beats sound better than original Veats, so if you find a beats headphone sounding really good then damn you got a fake.

SonnyMakerThanks a lot for taking the time to give some great feedback :) I think that with your comments as well as zhouharvey's points I have enough info that I can go ahead and get myself a pair of these once I've rounded up enough cash ;)

zhouharveyYou make a good point, I do recall getting a couple of refunds from ebay way back. A quick look turned up no sufficiently cheap 425s but I'll keep checking...
