Buy the Plus or save up for an Andromeda?

uniengineIt depends on how you'll be using them, what other gear you have, etc. I went with the MD+ to have something 'good enough' for mobile usage. Having owned a number of headphones, the law of diminishing returns is very apparent to me with IEMs costing more than a few hundred dollars. I know that I can sit down in a quiet room with a decent source and material and listen carefully for the slight differences between the two but that's just not the environment I'd be using them in. I'll use them whilst walking around or sitting on a plane to have something convenient, inconspicuous and isolating. There's also a much higher risk of breaking or losing IEM's compared to full size headphones you'd use at your desk which I factor into my decision of what to carry around whilst commuting or having a beer after work. This is why I chose the MD+ over something more expensive, and I'll invest the savings into a nice pair of super comfy over ear headphones to use at my desk.

z4r9Good point. I am scared of upgrade itch however. I really wish there is a way to try out the Plus before buying them.

uniengineI find I need different iems or heaphones to serve different purpose so you might need to think about the purpose of your purchasd.
At office: I have a few. Noise cancelling one(Audio Technica ANC7b) when I want to focus. no music played. But I also have some closed(Monoprice m1060c) or semi-closed(Fostex TH-X00 Ebony or Fostex T-X0) depending on the situation.
Commute: Shure SE846 or Westone UMPro 50 or Sennheiser IE80 or Sennheiser 598C.
At home: Sennheiser HD6xx. Sony bluetooth
Vacation: Cheap ones that I wouldnt mind too much if I lost them. KZ-ZS5 or ZS6 (with VE Monk cables) Audio Technica IM70 Xiaomi USB-C noise cancelling Monk plus
Then the rest are for curiosity which I rarely use.
My recommendation is that you try to gauge what would be the biggest budget you could save up and aim for TOTL iems (no custom in ears). They usually serve all purpose very well and you dont have to upgrade any time soon.
IEM can be used everywhere so that is pretty good unlike the headphones.
I went through lots of IEMs and still ended up buying shure se846. If I bought it from the beginning I might have saved all the money spent on other iems.

ridhuankimThe 846 is my favorite pair as well. They're so versatile soundwise and sound great out of everything you plug them in. They sound even better balanced or with a silver Litz cable and scale.more than you would think. I use mine with startips and black filters and haven't come across a better set for my daily needs. Others may have small differences in one area but overall falter. I still feel like the mids and lows of the 846 just can't be beat for the cost you can get them for nowadays (got mine for $700 new on Black Friday).
