Is there a fairly easy way to swap a closed back on these for moments I want to use them in public?

jakewyattNot at all. These are open backed headphones, so will not function at all closed. If you need that functionality, maybe look at a Monoprice M565 or M560.

jakewyattNope not at all, these have no mods to be closed back, nor will they work closed back.

jakewyattI've come across a guy who will put closed wood backs on for you...for about 2x what you paid for the headphones.

jakewyattIt's not. it probably changes the imaging in a negative way. Audiophiles be weird, man.

jakewyattJake, making these headphones closed back by yourself would ruin the sound anyway. They were engineered with an open back design in mind. If you want closed back get a cheap quality pair of cans like the M50X.

Mario.PaulI wrote a thread about this on the M50X drop, but TL;DR, the M50X is the most overrated audiophile headphone ever. What happened was Audio-Technica sent a bunch of them to tech Youtubers, who are not audiophiles, and they liked them because they don't know any better. But the Audiophile people hate the M50X. I have them and they are muddy with way too sharp highs that are fatiguing. The same goes for all the other M**X headphones, M20X, M30X, M50X, and M70X are all terrible. For whatever reason the M40X is not like the others, and is actually good.
Please watch Zeos' review of the M50X, he hits it right on the head to why they are bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UrKy1EuO0k

CokemanIs that Zeos Pantera? I have a lot of respect for that guy, he is well known in the car sim community. I didn't know he was an audiophile too. Thanks for the heads up
