Hi, recently picked up the HD 6XXs and am looking for a AMP and/or DAC for around $100.
I have read some reviews about the O2 and the Schiit Magni and I am split between those. Also the Schiit Fulla 2 seems like a great value to me but I have seen a few people say it distorts at high volumes and so I am not sure.
If anyone who has some audiophile experience please give me a few suggestions around this price range, that would be greatly appreciated.

DwarveSCThe O2 would be a good value wise option and would power the HD 6XX no problem. The Schiit Magni would also be a good alternative but I've heard the O2 is more neutral and uncolored. I've also seen the FiiO E09K for under 100 on eBay, which are pretty great at powering headphones like the HD 6XX and has a nice variety of ports. Fulla 2 is probably not the best option for powering the HD 6XX as it won't be able to fully provide the power to bring out the potential of these headphones. The O2/ODAC combos or the Magni/Modi stack would be nice to have or you could pick up a FiiO E09K and any DAC of your choosing if you can mix and match to your preference/budget. I'd say if you can afford it, get a DAC along with an AMP for the best audio experience but if you can't afford a DAC, at least get an amp that can sufficiently power these cans.

DwarveSCThe Fulla 2 is the best option for an AMP/DAC for $100. However I would really recommend spending a bit more and getting a Magni 3 and Modi 2. That will be all you will ever need and will preform much better on the 6XXs

CokemanIs it really necessary to get a DAC? I currently use some Mackie CR3s for computer audio and from what I can tell I can't hear any electrical noise from my mobo.

CokemanProbably not the Magni 3. It's been described as an amp that makes the sound warmer/darker. Considering that the 650/6xx is already known for it's darker sound that some people call veiled, this might not do the headphones justice.

DwarveSCPersonally I would get a DAC, it is about more than electrical noise.

DwarveSCget the amp and dac with the features you want. people love talking about 'colored' and 'neutral' amps, but honestly, unless you've spent thousands of hours with high end audio gear, it won't make a lick of difference. In my opinion, the magni 3 is the best value out there. If you want to be crazy you can use Odac with Magni!

bYtockThanks for all the feedback everyone. I think I'll go for magni 3 because I would like some preamp for my speakers and maybe in a few months get a modi.
probably when they release a modi 3

flux1315Some guys on reddit also said that the line out and preamp out on the back of the Monoprice Desktop Amp may have QA issues that's causing distortion.

There's a guarantee that there will be no issues if you're just going to use the headphone output but you may get a faulty unit and find out that you can't use some of the outputs on the back of the piece.
