Any black friday/cyber monday deals on amp/dacs? Got 250 to spend for the HD6XX that are coming, any recommendations? I really would like a portable solution as they will be on the go often.
RockstarcolaI would second the O2 if you are looking for deals since schiit doesn't discount their products (but you can still get a modi/magni stack for $200) and I doubt the NFB 11.28 will be on sale that low (usually $330)
RockstarcolaI have a Fiio Q1 for my portable dac amp. Ive used it with my friends HD650, and it sounded amazing to me. I have the first gen Q1, but i just found out theres a Mkii Fiio Q1
EDIT: Oh, and my option is not sufficient in powering the headphones to its fullest potential, but it makes the headphones loud enough and sound good enough for me (at least for on the go).
CokemanWhile i agree that the Magni 3 and Modi 2 would be a fantastic combo to buy with his budget, i dont think you can say that no one is going to use these portable. Just because they are open, it doesnt mean he cant use them out of his house. At the same time, I dont know what he means by portable. Such as does he mean he's planning on walking around with them on, or does he travel a lot, etc.
JmunandarSo by portable I mean going from home to office, then out of town on occasion. Although it would be great to be able to play off my pixel xl I don't think I'll be utilizing these being open. I have a pair of V-MODA zn in ears for my phone.
RockstarcolaOh i see. @Cokeman you can forget about my comment lol.
I would agree with Cokemans suggestion on the dac amp, as it falls under your budget, it's more powerful than the O2, and although i dont think its meant to be portable, i think its possible to bring it around. Only thing is that its 2 separate units.
RockstarcolaDepends on how it sounds from your computer. If something sounds strange or fuzzy you could be getting interference from the other electrical components in your computer, thus making an external DAC a viable option. It is also possible that you wouldn't notice the difference. you can always by an amp and then decide if you want an external DAC later.
RockstarcolaI have an older model alienware 15 and I almost prefer it (although it colors the sound) vs listening through my amp. I don't hear much plugged into my alienware that would make me think a dac is necessary.
GapterThanks for the feedback, I also have the same preference of listening on my alienware because the DAC performance is great. I will definitely try it without the DAC first.
