I've got mine. Two things (1) the sound is incredible. Yes, incredible. (2) it's open. Not "open", but "OPEN". To me it's like an amplifier: you almost hear more things outside when you wear your headphone. This implies that you *must* be in a quiet room to fully enjoy this headphones, otherwise you'll be more frustrated than happy.

OlivierPonsSo you would say these are worth the $270 (Canadian) price? What are you using to power them?

Mark_MI've bought : - the Shure SRH840 for $99 - the "Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350" for $114.99
The Shure is "closed" headphones. It's the only one which made me feel like "hey where does that sound come from?" = feel like I had no headphones.
Two problems: - the "velour" pads which generate small noises around your ears - the "open" headphones
IMHO the "fake leather pads" are better for my ears (that's why I bought the "Dekoni Premium Ear Pads for HD 58X & HD 6XX") So yes I'd say it's a good bargain but not the best if you work in a noisy environment, or if you prefer leather pads because this will cost you more.
IMHO the "Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350" for $114.99 is a better bargain (even though if aesthetically it's bad). The Shure SRH840 is the best bargain for noisy environments.
... and if I had money I'd instant buy the current drop "Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 Purpleheart Headphones"

Mark_MSo I'd say it's a good bargain, very good quality, but not the best ever.

OlivierPonsWell the "best ever" would likely be lots more money which I can't afford. But would these be a noticeable improvement over the HD598s which is what I have now? I'm still considering the 58X also.

Mark_MI'm not an audiophile. I just want good sound with headphones that dont bother me. Event though it sounds easy, it's not really easy to find that, but as a "simple" guy I cant tell you more than what I've said...

Mark_MThis is a very great improvement over the HD598 as this one is actually the same legendary HD650 painted with other color and a shorter cable with a 3.5 jack.
The HD598 is an open back headphone that gives you the airy and spacious sound of an open back headphone, but only with average quality for its price (i think even the Audio Technica M50x gives better detail and response at $145).
In other hand, the HD6XX is based on a headphone that was Sennheiser's flagship for around 10 years and it is still considered one of the best headphones you can buy under $1000.
Something awesome about them is it's scalability with better equipment and source. It's almost endles how you can improve it's sound quality. It keeps giving you more.

Mark_MI'm a developper & need good quality. I dont hesitate to put my money in good quality products... I prefer $99 + $114.99 + $214.99 and be sure I have exactly what I need 10hours/day and have a crappy car, than what 99% of other people do (= bad headphones but nice, shiny & good looking car). Same story for keyboard and clothes... You wouldn't believe how much I've spent for my Ergodox Infinity + all the things around... and you wouldn't believe how old my clothes are...
Well what I mean is that even though $199.99 is expensive, if it's important for you like it's for me it's not that much. You wont be disappointed.

KukoCLI had the M50x and they were too big for my head on the smallest headband setting. I think the 598s are great quality for the $150 I paid new. Are the ear cups bigger on the 6XX than the 598?

Mark_MI cant answer that as i tried a pair of 598 some years ago and i don't remember if it's the same ear cup size. But i can tell you my ears are kinda big and i have plenty room for them on the ear cups, but not enough deep. My ears slightly touches the drivers.

aylovReally? Buy how much? In pictures they look like they're bigger than the 598s. But perhaps it's just the medal grills on the back of the ear cups which make it seem like they're bigger.

Mark_MNot by much. But 598 are completely over my ear, while in 6xx touches top at bottom. If you wonder my ear is 9 cm long. Hope this helps.
