For HD 6XX's owners, is its sound signature really identical to the original Sennheiser HD 650?

MrBigThank you. This video just gave me the answer I was looking for. By the way I guess you were right, the frequency response measurement is almost the same (even if slightly different in the bass and treble's frequencies), among which in real life I don't think anyone would be able to hear any differences. So, since my old trusty HD650 are broken, I guess it will be a great deal buying the Massdrop 6XX instead of a new pair of the original 650.

H1F1_M4NThey are exactly the same, maybe slighly off (human ears are incapable of hearing the difference). Look at it like this, it’s the same headphones just with different names.

H1F1_M4NNo they are not. The original HD650 are of a different design to the HD6XX, which is based on the current generation of HD650 headphones.

H1F1_M4NYes, the original HD650 headphones were more veiled and harder to tame, however some people prefer the original HD650 sound for this reason. If you were referring to the original HD650 sound, then you won't get it on the HD6XX or any brand new HD650, you'd have to look on the 2nd hand market.

JackulaOh I see, didn't know there were 2 different HD650's versions to be honest. So that means I have the 'not original one' since I bought it after the 2008.. :/

JackulaWhat H1F1_M4N want's to know, is if there's difference in sound signature between the current HD650 (he owns) and the 6XX. Forget about older HD650 models which was raised out of argument sake and it'sirrelevant. The true answer is, no there isn't. No need to buy the 6XX. Try the AKG 7XX.

MegazineIt's relevant, because original models had a different sound signature. It's what he asked originally. We found out eventually that he already had the 2008+ model, but that is hindsight bias. Whose the silly willy one now?
@H1F1_M4N Don't have the K7XX but have the K702, they're similar but not identical. The easiest way to describe the differences *in general* is the larger soundstage, faster sound and brighter sound on the K7XX. Also as you probably already know, the HD650 are difficult to drive, but the K7XX are just as difficult to drive but in a different way. HD650 is best with an amp that can output a lot of power between 300 and 500 ohms, with high output impedance. K7XX is best with an amp that can output a lot of power between 62 and 68 ohms, with low output impedance.

H1F1_M4NWish I could help. I own the 7XX and I ordered the 6XX but they won't arrive till end of March. I will be comparing. In the mean time I'm trying to get the Shure SRH1840 which are highly underrated.

JackulaThank you. So I guess its sound is more comparable to the more detailed and opened HD800? And, like the HD650, would they sound better with a tube amp or a solid state one would be fine?

H1F1_M4NI guess you could say the HD800 is the natural step up from the K702, at least that's how my upgrade path went. And then I went back to HD600 then to HD6XX, which the better headphone for me after 10 years.
The K702 is great with a warm tube amp. Although a friend of mine prefers a SS amp with them, and his preferences are exact opposite to mine, the K702 is his all time favorite headphone and he hates the HD650.

JackulaMmh, I guess it's not so easy to find the right amp for the HD650. Infact, as a HD650 owner, I still haven't find the right amp for it, and that's maybe wow they didn't blow my mind yet. Whereas cans like the Beyer T1 2nd gen or even the DT1990 did. I still have to try the HD650 with a tube amp, so maybe that's why they didn't sound so "wow" yet, I don't know to be honest. I also never heard the HD800 nor the K702. I just wonder if the HD800 would have enough bass for pretty all kind of genres, not so sparkle trebles (maybe the HD800s is the antidote for that matter) and its soundstage not too exaggerated for small ensamble/chamber stuffs (if not, it could sound too artificial to me). Perhaps, the best thing about the HD650 is the intimate connection that it can create between you and the artist’s voice (which is where maybe also the DT1990 lacks a bit and the DT880 takes the cake, due to its more forward mids). I think that the ideal headphone could be - at least for me - something which has the soundstage/details of the HD800 (even if I’ve never heard it, but it's pretty famous for it), but at the same time the intimacy and 'magical touch' of the HD650 as well as defined bass like the DT1990). Or maybe the best listening experience would be just having the best headphones for each type of genre/music you wanna listen to. I don’t know to be honest and anyway I don’t think I will have soon enough money to make this a real problem for me :D.

H1F1_M4NNot sure if it exists. A bright sounding signature tend to enhance the soundstage width of a headphone, while at the same time you need lots of deep and controlled bass for soundstage depth. This is why I moved on from headphones into speakers, it's much easier to achieve since loudspeakers generally have more than one driver - bass drivers for depth, tweeters for width and mid drivers for those intimate mids. But I moved back into headphones when my newborn threatened to poke holes into my speakers.

JackulaHahah oh no..!! Well, probably what you said is true, but I also moved from speakers to headphone..mainly for space reason, to be able to listen to music whenever I want and to be able to bring music with me since I’m not living in my hometown right now, and so I need something lighter to move from house to house.
By the way, about the “headphone of my dream”, I thought it could be a HD800s or a LCD X (from what I heard), or maybe a Stax with a tube amp.. but only God knows whenever I will be able to buy the (holy) Stax... :/

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?

Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x

Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. I am using the Topping D50 DAC. thx!!

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?

I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones.
