Hi all -
We’ve been able to work with Sennheiser to expand the latest production run of the Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones without impacting the ship date of the previous drops. Because of this, will likely be able to open up a couple of limited quantity drops over the next several months.
This first drop will be live at 6am PT on 2/8 with a quantity of 1,000 units available. These units are estimated to ship in mid-July.
We’re excited to be able to help some more members get their hands on a pair of the 6XX!
tr1cycleWell no, since these are all being made. If anything, they're doing the opposite. Making more than they should or planned to in order to meet demand.
bradr In a way it's kind of gratifying to know that something is being made specifically for you. How many folks outside of MassDrop can say that their Sennheisers were made for them and shipped directly to them? In a way it's like bespoke technology ;)
Man I feel like a MassDrop commercial. I swear I don't work for them.
MrBig:Sneakily slips @MrBig a $20:
Thanks MrBig! I agree, as someone who participates in drops as well I really love that aspect of Massdrop.
Each of these collaborations is only possible if members are excited enough to order one and get the product made. And I think there's even more we can do to help bring members in on that process (early feedback on concept/design, sneak peaks, exclusive content, reviews, other perks, etc.). We'll be trying to do more on this front this year!
MrBigI just heard it on the grapevine, from the Head Raisin himself, that Sennie Leprechaun is in touch with Ernie Keebler to speed things up. The elves are measuring some hollow trees to see if they can bake up some additional biscuits.
😋
CodFsh9True. The wait is definitely the worst part. It would put my mind at ease if there was just a live feed of their factory making the headphones. I really want my December shipment now =P
Seanth1994Yeah this would be my first experience getting a notification of a drop so I was really excited about it but seeing the mid-July shipping date just killed everything for me. Seems your shipment is 2 months late but you survived the original wait already so that's something.
CodFsh9Oh, I used the wrong terminology. I joined the December 30 drop. It's supposed to ship late march from the email I received after purchase. Probably will end up at my door sometime in early April
bradrAnother HD700 drop please!
Sorry for being out of topic but I figure this busy thread would get me the most attention. :D
I already have a 6XX and absolutely love them. But I think I'm ready to try another Sennheiser.
BlakeMorrowThe HD6XX drops aren't exactly selling out, more often than not it gets extended... But they're still moving truckloads of product for Senn.
I'm surprised it's back so soon actually. Either it's proven more profitable than expected for all parties or MD has found it easier to work with Sennheiser as time goes on.
Or they really wanna get rid of HD650 parts ASAP in order to push the HD660S... ;> Pick your preferred theory depending on level of cynicism or optimism.
ImpulsesI like the HD700. Yes the peaks can be tiring and harsh but If you can get a used set they are amazing for classical music. I like them far better for classical music and the comfort and size is amazing but overall the HD650 is a better more versatile headphone.
bradrDammit I hope you guys open up again, I've missed the window twice now. I really need to remember to check in daily, the email notification messed up somehow.
HuelloDude the last window was huge, it started before the holidays and got extended into the new year, you could've been checking every other month and still would've caught it. I'm sure they'll drop again tho...
Impulsesjudging by the amount of time it takes from a drop being made and arrival of product at your doorstep, i'm fairly certain this isn't just to get rid of HD650 parts that are stockpiled in a warehouse. Massdrops for these headphones have been going on since at least 2016 with 30,000 already in the hands of customers. I don't think any company who manufactuers a relatively low volume product like the HD650 would have stockpiles of parts anywhere close to that. If these were made in China, i would agree with the theory, but these are made in Ireland.
som3dudeAlmost there!!
Yeah I ordered back in January and I'm starting to wig out. I don't think I can do this MassDrop stuff regularly. The delay is just one month TOO long almost. But the savings on this specific job is just too good to ignore.
MrBigI jumped on it in Dec, not really in any hurry tho (would've just grabbed the HD650 for $100 more if so)... My HD600 have been serving me well and the living room setup I'm putting one on will depend on the CTH that hasn't arrived either. :P
Does MassDrop use FedEx SmartPost throughout the US? (where they take it some of the way then hand it to USPS) Here in Puerto Rico that seems slower than just sending it straight via FedEx OR straight via USPS even.
The tracking is pretty haphazard too, sometimes a month goes by without an update.
MrBigHave been waiting since early December. This is a painful wait, but let's hope it was worth it! Also hope it gets through customs quickly... I've had problems with customs in my country before.
timothomI hope so too. If I'm lucky, I get the HD 6XXs somewhere in April. Otherwise it might not even be until May that I get it delivered to my door. Fortunately, DHL is better at dealing with customs than the other couriers in the Netherlands, so I hope I'll only have to wait a few weeks.
A European warehouse would be awesome! Right now the 6XXs get made in Ireland, only a few hundred kilometers from here. Then, it goes all the way to the US to Massdrop, then all the way back here. Seems like a waste of money and time. A EU warehouse could solve it.
PimNThe complicated European tax structure (VAT tax, etc) is a hurdle to doing international business. Especially when you contrast it to a system like the US, which has a simpler tax structure and thus, costs a business like Massdrop less money to do business properly.
Also they have to deal with fees from customs and provide a reasonable estimate to the user as to how long the product may be tied up in customs, and any fees that may arise in the process of customs.
Multiply this over the many different laws and regions in the EU and it quickly becomes very expensive to get it right AND support it.
timothomAnd the poor, for the rich, comrade!
"No man should own two pair of $500 Massdrop x Fostex TH-X00 Ebony Headphones, until everyman owns one!"
--Carl Marx
timothomI didn't mean to imply Karl would be passing out free Fostex TH-X00s, Comrade Bot-nik; only that he would frown on the capitalist bosses who keep the prices artificially high, at the expense of the everyday worker!
I am shocked to also hear you cast such slanderous aspersions against a fine company like Apple, as well! In my experience, I have never known an Apple product to fail (only to be upgraded, a week after my purchase). And by the way, comrade, I'm listening to Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata No. 2 with my Apple AirPods--as we speak, and they are working quite well, thank you!
timothomI prefer "fearless" it has that revolutionary ring to it.
Of course one day, hopefully in the present decade, Massdrop will ship our damn Sennheiser HD 6XX Headphones, and our color-matched, 2.5m Sennheiser HD 6XX 4 Pin Balanced Cables (with the $30.00 up-charge), and...if the moon and stars are aligned, Shiit will ship my twice-backordered, Jotunheim amp (with the additional $100 DAC module), and I promise, I'll do nice A/B test for you: the working-man's iPhone 8 with AirPods, against the bourgeoise Jotunheim/Sennheiser combo!
I know you won't want to miss it, comrade...
RayFI have to admit, I didn't know Apple made anything other than the little freebee earbuds that came with an iPod. The earbuds seem to be something entirely different..
timothomThose were a start, and they did improve them with each iteration of the iPhone. They were never audiophile quality, but weren't really all that bad either--and, as you say, they came with the phone. The wires did get in the way, so I'd been using an LG bluetooth headset for a couple of years. Not a lot better sounding, but work well for calls too. Which brings me to a point about the wireless AirPods, they're small, light and very easy on the ears (I often forget I'm wearing them). The work with the phone (and watch) for calls and music, and best of all, they fit in any pocket so they're there when you need them (say, shopping at Walmart or Homedepot for instance). I'm probably going to join in on the Hifiman HE4XXs drop today, but I'll be hanging on to those handy AirPods for a long while to come...
DropLikeItsHotYou mean the Sennheiser HD 6XXs? Probably not gonna do 'em again--not very popular, was too hard to get people interested in 'em. Massdrop bought a bunch and couldn't sell 'em; I heard most of 'em ended up in a landfill out in Wyoming, er someplace like that...
Assimilator702Yeah, just kidding. Massdrop could buy a small country with the money they made off that deal (not to mention all the Ferraris and race horses we bought them on the first couple).
