How do these HD6XX compare to the Audio Technica ATH-M50x for wearing comfort. I have a large head and looking for something that is light and doesn't press hard on my ears.

BuckabooThese don't press against your ears at all, they are over ear vs M50's on ear. I've got a big head too and the HD6XX are 10x more comfortable than the M50! However when new, these have a death grip on your skull, but loosens up naturally over a few weeks. Sennheiser makes some of the most comfortable headphones on the market, the HD6XX is one of them.

BuckabooATHM50X's are pieces of garbage in terms of comfort imo, I couldn't stand mine. They're tight, put pressure on the bottom of my ears and the stock pads get hot easily. Brand new HD6XX/HD650s will have some clamping force, you will notice it but it's not a painful or uncomfortable clamping force.
It's something that goes away in time and you can always try to manipulate the clamping force with a little DIY. Look up guides, do some light YouTube research and check out Head-Fi/Reddit for tutorials it's really not a difficult thing but it's better to do it well the first time. The stock ear pads are also extremely comfortable and let my ears breathe. All in all, the headphones aren't quite at the "completely forget you're wearing them," comfort but they're pretty close to it to me and I likewise have a melon on top of my neck.

LeowulfIt depends on how wide your head is. I have a fairly narrow head and the M50x exerts some pressure but nothing uncomfortable. If I'm wearing them for 1 hour + I might take them off after 30 minutes to stretch my jaw. Now the Sennheiser HD205 I use for movies..... THOSE have a DEATH GRIP. I've gotten use to it because I live the sound signature but when I first got them I thought I made a huge mistake. Now I want a second pair as a backup.

Buckaboothe ath-m50xs are some of the most uncomfortable headphones I've ever worn, could not wear them for more than an hour at a time. Until I got 3rd party after market earpads now I can wear them all day. So if we are talking in terms of just how it comes in the box, I'd say the 6xx is more comfortable, but with aftermarket parts just buy whatever earpads you like and put them on the new headphones

BuckabooIf you want comfort, the Audio Technica ATH-AD900X should be the the first set you look at.
