Hey everyone,
We’re excited to announce we’ve worked with Sennheiser to continue production on the HD 6XX and launch more units! We will likely be able to open up a couple of limited quantity drops over the next few months.
The first of these runs is available today, with 1,000 units (until 42,050 units sold). The estimated ship date for this production run is August 13.
Thanks to everyone for helping us make the HD 6XX a success!
AveryCI got in at the very first job, absolutely amazing that Massdrop is up at 42,050 units in a little over a year. Thanks for bringing awesome products and hope to see more!
Music-headThanks for the info.
Is the HD 6xx (650) has the same sound signature like HD 660 S? I test drove HD 660 S and like its sound signature. Too bad the HD 660 S is sold around USD 656 here in Indonesia.
chroneThe HD 660 S has a more lively, bright signature even though the treble isn’t actually louder overall, and more transparent like closer to actually having musicians performing for you. The HD 6XX is more relaxed and rounded, still detailed and natural but softer impact. They will sound like they are siblings in the same family.
Tech22You won't be able to purchase them today. However, if you've placed them on your request list, you should receive an alert when they do return (in a post above, it says they will have several batches over the next few months).
B1gdee05Mine shipped on March 9th. I received the email saying they were in the warehouse on March 6th. Looks like we'll all see our headphones a good 2 weeks early. Yipeee!!!!
Tech22Bingo. You'll NEVER get a pair once 41,050 units have sold. You'll be forced to either buy a pair of HD650 for $320+ or find a used pair that's all beat up. Better save up those pennies while these are still available.
Assimilator702They might not be here tomorrow. They might not be here the next day, or the day after that or even the day after that, but maybe a couple months from now they are coming back.
ZeddyYes I agree with you on that. And hopefully another by product is the price of the HD 660S will drop. With the 6xx selling @$199 here I'm positive MANY people that were possibly eyeing the HD660S as their first serious Sennheiser headphone decided to go with the HD 6XX. It's what happened with me.
MrBigClick on the "Person" icon at the upper right to get to your transactions page. You will see the details of your transaction, including your tracking number. You can use it to track your shipment through whatever delivery service is listed.
MrBigYes. I ordered on Nov 30th. I received my tracking # Friday afternoon. I SHOULD have received my package Tues. FedEx had my package at their local hub Mon morning. We had a snow storm Tues so they held off the handoff to USPS for safety reasons. It was slated as guaranteed for Wed. Now LAZY ASS USPS pushed it back to Thurs. I stayed home so I could be here when it arrived. Not sure I can do that tomorrow. :(
Mark_MThat means Massdrop ran out of headphones before they could fulfill your order. I thought I was going to have to wait until the next train but I was sent my tracking # Friday.
Mark_MI had an original ship date of March 28th. Not sure how that determine who to bump up and week b gets left behind. Maybe you ordered a few minutes later than me? I know I joined in he be last few minutes of the drop end.
Assimilator702I think it means they just didnt process your part of the final shipment yet, and they still have them.
They said in the email the last of the November-January shipment was in. There's not "more" coming for the March.
AveryCSince everyone is putting their shipping date I thought I would put mine as well.
I placed my order December 23, 2017 and they shipped March 12, 2018. According to FedEx, I should receive my headphones by this Saturday, March 17.
AveryCMy headphones shipped on March 13 but have an arrival date of March 21, they already got from New Jersey to New Mexico so I'm hoping it gets delivered early. Can't complain though as I ordered them on January 19!
AveryCI got my headphones a day early. Right now I'm just using the onboard sound from my Z97 G45 Gaming motherboard and it sounds pretty good. I tried plugging these headphones into different audio sources and the sound is ok, but it's definitely much better on my computer, especially after I adjusted the surround sound room correction settings in my audio manager.
Would something like Audio G-d's R2R-11 for $400.00 shipped be overkill? I plan on getting one other audiophile grade set of cans, maybe even two.
nsonnsonI got my 6xx today and am listening via my X1s which I bought specifically for this purpose. The X1s is driving the 6xx well. I am listening comfortably between 12 & 3 and can get to uncomfortable levels in the 3 to 6 range. I am listening to Google Play Music and FLAC (via VLC) on a Macbook Pro. That said, my understanding is that the 6xx scale well. I'm definitely interested in hearing them through a more powerful Amp.
MBPr -> GPM/VLC FLAC -> X1s -> 6xx.
mindhead1I have a Schiit Uber stack and a Little Dot MK II. The HD 6XX sounds great on the Schiit stack. With the Little Dot MK II the sound signature is a touch warmer with a touch more emphasis in the lower regions with a little warmth added to male vocals. The highs are a bit elevated and get a touch splashy with certain tracks but that could be the fault of the preamp tubes. Overall the sounds signature is great with a detailed but subdued treble. I understand why it's said this headphone scales with your equipment changes. Any change in the signal chain is conveyed by the headphones. I have about 20 hours cook time on them now and want to get 50 hours on them before I do any serious listening. So far I'm very impressed. Cook time updated to 30 hours and I think I can start listening to them but I'll still play them for 4 or 5 hours per day for the next week when not listening to them.
mindhead1do you have the 5th or the 6th gen? or in other words the old x1s or the newer 10 year anniversary one the differences is the power outage the old has 80 mW and the new has 200 mW at 300 ohms
Assimilator702I keep getting more and more addicted to my HD 650, ha! Though I stopped for lunch and dinner, I literally wore mine for like 8-9 hours yesterday!
This said as someone with more headphones than is reasonable for one person to have. The HD 650 does not get all my head-time, and it’s not my top headphone either, but I love it and enjoy the no-fuss musical nature of it :D
fooffoofGood choice. I'm adding a Magni 3 to my collection. How can you not for the price? It would be easy to accidently spend $115 on a bunch of crap.
duo202Its kinda funny.. Im sure they are aware of this drop date and the previous dates and it seems like they dont bother to state even a bit explanation and expect us all to just accept it. What soccery is this...
Assimilator702Nice! I've got a Magni 3 and a Modi 2, and I'm about to get the 6XXs so I'll be doing my first listening session tonight when I get home. I can't wait!
AveryCI received mine today and am really impressed with how solid the build is for $200. My FiiO Q1 is not powerful enough to drive these, so I have a Jotunheim w/ multibit DAC arriving this Saturday...life is good!
chrone660s is has same drivers as HD700 but different tuning, both have issues when it comes to natural sounding cans, the HD6XX is more refined, laid back and dark
660s is easier to drive but you will need a good amp to tame the treble as it can be peaky
JT134They stated multiple times in the comments here that the April shipping date was caused by a "technical bug" when the drop opened. It was already fixed by the time I joined the drop. If you don't want to wait, you'll probably have to contact somebody at Massdrop. This is one of the various earlier comments from Will:
"Hey Everyone,
There was a technical bug this morning that resulted in an incorrect ship date being listed on this drop.
These will not ship in April, these will ship in August (est ship date Aug 16), after the units from the previous drop are fulfilled.
If this changes your desire to purchase, you can modify yout order from your "my transactions" page.
Thanks for your interest in this collaboration and our community!"
GrogWhen i signed up, i read the main page and then proceeded to give my payment. It's not really standard practice to go reading through the discussion to see if they screwed up their post? They should have fixed it.
vasichkinWelcome to the MassDrop "purgatory". May I ask: did your credit card (or PayPal) get charged for your order? I ordered at the beginning of March. ETA approximately mid-August. Patience, eh. Up here in Toronto, the HD650 is selling for $700-800 (if you can find them). Even with the CDN-USD conversion rate, it's still cheaper for me to do this drop.
Small comfort, I know., @vasichkin . I'm dying too. My headphone amp's woefully overpowered for my current cans. Sigh...
PotfOraokay!. That’s good. You‘ll Get a set (that happened to me too, once that drop ended). I‘d Print up a receipt (or save it as a PDF)...
and now....
the waiting begins.
DevonSevrens I bought them in February and my estimated ship date is August 13th. How is this production run roughly the same ship date. Kinda frustrated because I would be waiting almost 2 months more, though after watching some reviews, I heard them mention that they do come "a couple months early". Honestly can't wait.
DylanGallagherI couldn't stand having to wait 4-5 months to receive them, which is why I opted to order mine on eBay last week. Paid about $20 more and I'll have them in a couple days. Usually Massdrop orders are quick, but not for these cans!
DylanGallagherMaybe the production just gone quickly than anticipated so instead of shipping them earlier they just open another drop with new estimated shipping date that just a few days after the previous batch. That make sense to me since they open new drop EVERY DAMN WEEKS now.
hug.hNo what they do is a maximum production run due to costing of running the run
The more they get the better it is for Senheisser to stay partnered with MD
These cans sell for $500 cheapest where I live, getting them for $280 landed puts a dent in the retail market so maximising profits is what is it all about
Senn do this by batch runs of large quantities, not small
I know all this because I work as an FBI agent
SnakePlisskenGood to have you on our side then, Snake. BTW, I have a question for you. How do I get out of New York. I also need some tips on escaping LA too. Someone told me you might be able to help.
sparky1725Counterfeiting the "knock off" of the 650's, that's funny. But not unrealistic! They were brand new in box and everything I've identified points to them being real. Always good to be cautious on there. I've noticed a trend that many 6xx's are sold on eBay around the time people start receiving their drops. So people buy a few extra and try to flip them for a little profit.
hug.hIf there’s another drop that follows up fast after a previous drop and ships faster, it’s far more likely that they are extra unsold units from the production batch of the last drop.
AveryCyou guys hustled on this one, the 6xx is a resounding success. now, uh, maybe bring back the Hifiman HE-500? or the Elex but at $500, that would sell as well, and I don't think it's a stretch as you can have an Elear for easily $550 on a good day used.
This drop will close at 43,050 units sold.
