I love these headphones! The downside I have is I splurged for an Ursine Audio custom cable and just don't have the ear to hear the difference though I'm sure it's worlds better than the stock cable. Just haven't developed the taste for it yet. If anyone wants it, it's their most expensive cable (the premium sleeved braided) with a 6' extended length and a stainless steel splitter module. Sells new for $160. I'd sell via Paypal for $80 and pay shipping if anyone wants it. It's the black-and-gray paracord combo.

joeltwilcoxIf you're curious, this is the page for the top-grade cable: http://ursine.audio/item/premium-sleeved-braided-cable Bonus is it keeps you from needing to use the 1/4 inch adapter on your DAC.

joeltwilcoxI suspect there are more people out there with "your ears" than are actually willing to admit it--thanks for your honesty! I did order the balanced Van Damme Audio Instrument & HD 6XX Cables, partly because I have a Jotunheim on the way with that output, and also because I wanted a more dura cable than stock, but somewhere inside, I was also hoping for better sound--hope I can hear it!

joeltwilcoxMaybe the problem isn't your ears, but your brain

Mattprather2112That seems a rather uncalled for comment--you should be ashamed of yourself! No more Massdrop for you young man--you're grounded! Now get upstairs to your room for the rest of the night!

Mattprather2112Don't recall spending $160 on anything--perhaps you have me confused with one of your other fans?

RayFIf you don't listen to music for a living chances are you will barely hear a difference if at all. BUT if you listen to them long enough you may be able to pick up on some differences, though still very subtle. This happened with me when I was trying to test my Jot and my Cowon P1 dap, initially I wasn't really able to hear a difference between the two but after like a month or two of listening to them for a few hours each day I finally was able to tell apart the two, though just barely.

OakbingListening to music for a living would be a pretty good job--but only if I got to pick the music! There's some pretty ugly shit out there masquerading as music!
I do travel a lot and listen then for hours at a time, so hopefully I'll hear the difference at some point--but I know I'll like what I hear with the 6XXs (assuming I live long enough for them to get here).

RayFYeah, ever since they came out with the update saying all the earphones are here for the Dec orders I've been constantly checking my emails to see if there's any update xD... Well I'm sure it's travelling at lightspeed from somewhere millions of light-years away. We'll get them... some day... But I feel the 6xx will definitely be a good pair of cans for my at home listening. The Andromeda I listen to now is great and all but I just can't stand the part where the nozzle fogs up after a while of listening on a cold day...
On a more serious note, I've noticed that usually the subtle differences can be truly appreciated only during quiet listening sessions where I'm lounging upon the laps of my harem in a relaxed manner, with my eyes closed, and letting the music take me wherever it takes me... (I'm totally a Somali prince yup.)
In terms of the most obvious difference in sounds, it's probably gonna be something like this in terms of improvement/ changes:
Headphones > Amps > Dacs > Cables > other bizarre things people try to sell you for over $1000 that improves sound or just how your brain perceives the sound due to amount spent.

OakbingYou had me at Harem! And I agree completely, after a point the ROI is going to be "in the ear of the beholder." I have always felt that those folks who've spent more money on equipment, than the sound improvement they're getting--are unlikely to admit it! Who says "I just spent $2,500 on a set of headphone cables and I can't hear the difference between them and the stock cables"? No one!

RayFYup! After a certain point the rate of return you get from buying more expensive "better" gear becomes a lot less, if at all. For me I feel as long as you're happy with the system, and you have no issue with how the music sounds coming out of your system, there is no need to go further unless you've heard the upgrades first and know what you're buying into.
It's more fun to enjoy the music with the gears you're happy with, instead of always searching for the next "upgrade" that will bring you 0.1% closer to that music heaven you imagine within your mind. That's just going to cause more grief and you spend a lot less time actually listening to music as opposed to listening to reviews of music gears XD...
But yeah, interested in hearing from you in regards to that Van Damme cable, I do own a Jotunheim and bought a stock cable (modded with the 4pin XLR), would also be doing some tests on that to see if the Jot XLR port vs its SE port has any difference, or none as many others are saying online... now just gotta wait for the shipping notification for the headphones~

OakbingYeah, not a fan of the waiting part! I agree about not chasing Nirvana and ending up with a closet full of incremental upgrade purchases.
I notice there's currently a feeding-frenzy going on over the today's DarkVoice drop. Already 2,000 plus discussions going on, lot of talk about what new tubes to buy and how they'll sound vs stock--I don't envy them (glad I haven't heard that voice calling me yet).
If, and when my Schitt ever gets here, I'll give you a full review of the cables!

RayFYeah, I heard some good things about the Dark Voice, some not so good ones either. However going down the spiral of tubes is definitely equal to sending your wallet into purgatory... I think you'll be pretty happy with the Jotunheim, I've had mine for about 4~5 months now and I think they're quite good. Did you get it with the DAC module?
