Which headphones of Drop's currently available?
I have some rewards points to burn but there's no obviously good options on Drop right now for headphones Contenders Ultrasone - maybe? I don't own any Ultrasones, so curious. Looks like garbage travel headphone which could be useful also. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. - Maybe? I have the DT 880 Good price point, really uncomfortable headphones but could be interesting to try the upgraded version. E-MU - strong contender but $400 is a bad price point for what it is. Which of the above would you choose and why? Nothing else on Drop is relevant to my interests, because Already own 6xx 820 800 s Ether cx Garbage / Consumer grade Meze 99 - garbage bass canons, hard pass No gaming headphones obviously Sennheiser wireless - no to wireless/bluetooth Hifiman - I have 2 of drop hifimans and they make really bad cheap shit on Drop, hard pass on HE-R7DX Aeon - I own the closed, Drop refuses to address #padgate so no reason to buy open Beyerdynamic 177x - wireless, nope Too similar 8x / 560s...

Do you think going from the Denon AVR to the Shiit Magni 3 would be a big improvement? Thank you so much in advance
I have the same Onkyo CD Player and I find that I have more than enough volume.
What I have done is use the Toslink out to an input on my control receiver. I use the Line Out to connect to a Schiit Vali 2 which is located next to my favorite listening chair. I chose the Vali because I enjoy the tube effect.
I have no idea how the addition of some Schiit would affect how your ears would respond.
BTW - I'm a Classical music lover and that's 100% of my critical listening.
You may also try ONKYO C-7030 -> MODI 2 -> MAGNI 3. That way you can benefit from the DAC outputs of your CDP. It may sound better/different. And you can use cables to get your preferred sound.
Ive owned and heard the phone’s output of the C-7030. Not the final word in resolution or refinement. It’s a good player for the money but you can easily improve the sound by adding an external DAC. The Magni3 as ive mentioned would definitely improve the sound with the 6XX. And it will sound excellent with the MODI2.
It’s up to OP how far he wants to go. I wasn’t suggesting DAC rolling. You asked a question and I merely answered it. Nothing more.
So far OP hasn’t asked any questions so I figured he got the suggestion. Am leaving it as that. Enjoy yr 6XX.
My primary listening is film score music, and I only listen CDs (originals of course, love collecting them) John Williams, Zimmer, Goldsmith, etc.. and for that purpose, which would be a better match for my Onkyo and my 6XX; Magni3 or Vali ? or maybe even a better option in that price range.
Thanks so much guys.
Though contemporary reproduction systems can be truly magnificent, we are still at the mercy of the original recordings. To that end, I have ordered a Schiit Loki. You might check it out. Many consider the concept to be old fashioned or even heresy. To me, it's only logical. When it arrives I'll share my reactions.
If you really want to go all out, there is the Schiit Mjolnar 2. The best of both worlds.
So about the Vali.. being an hybrid is it true it doesn’t have a “real” tube quality sound? at least that’s what I’ve read.
There is absolutely nothing wrong or lacking with the Magni. It is a exceptional pairing with the 6XX!
Thank you guys!
