reallyfled Idk what u did or if u have a biased placebo effect, but they are literally the exact same headphone except blue. You do realize that these have been measured side by side and produced the exact same results. You can look at the specs they are identical.

reallyfledWere the HD650's you compared the HD6XX against used or new? Because wear and compression of the pads over time can alter the sound quite a bit. So it's not really a fair comparison unless you're absolutely sure of a really important detail such as this.

reallyfledTo me they sound extremely similar given that the HD650 I tried was 2 years older than my HD6XX. IMHO, the HD6XX has better paint job :)

reallyfledAs others have said these are literally the HD 650's with different color / badges. Sennheiser has confirmed themselves that they're the identical headphone aside from that and others have tested them in detail with measuring equipment and they perform exactly the same. Clearly there are other variables at play for you whether it's mental bias or factors that others have suggested.

reallyfledYou do realize that your statement is based entirely on subjectivity, do you not? You describe what YOU hear. Everyone hears different, yet you are telling everyone to stay away from these cans and that both the manufacture and Massdrop are lying along with all the reviews that have measurements because of what you hear and your experience with them and you have the audacity to state your opinion as fact for all.
How is this different from telling those who don't resonate with say, ribbon tweeters that they should just buy speakers with them anyway and like them?
I believe either there is something going on with your hearing perhaps that you should have checked or this is pure mental bias or perhaps it is frustration over something such as missing out in the drop this time, the price, a past bad experience with either the manufacture or Massdrop or perhaps you are on the take somehow.
I have not even heard these cans yet, but I joined this drop based on lots of reviews saying the same thing, some recommends from folks here, my familiarity with Sennheiser and full knowledge of the risk of once again buying into the usual over-promise/under-deliver of the headphone market. I do have two different pair I like that were less than half the price of these. I have the AKG K7xx which is a great example of over-promise and under-deliver and worth about half of the $200 they cost. I have a HD518 which is not my favorite sounding headphone, but is my most comfortable. I am told the 600 series is far different in sound.
I also for the time being, believe in the graphs I have seen with the 6XX vs the 650. Also why would Sennheiser agree to changing the sound and that part of the build for a headphone that has been around for a decade and often referred to as that which all other cans are measured?

reallyfledClear your ear wax out of your head. Seriously your opinion is base on your hearing. Telling the masses that they are all wrong and your right, is silly. You sound more of a troll or a person wanting attention than a person with taste.
For me it's my first Sennheiser product and after watching many reviews from reputable people I made a choice to join the drop. I will pass judgement when they arrive and after 6 months of use.

BriskoI have access to many more pairs of both types (the real deal and the Massdrop deal)... I’ll do some more testing and let you know; however, it is worth noting that I actually went into this with the opposite expectation... so I don’t know how my mental bias would upend that..

Linked right to timestamp where he mentions it "I've got my confirmation from Sennheiser directly that ... nothing has been altered acoustically. BriskoI’ll look further into this and still do a few more listening tests. Perhaps we’re dealing with a defective product, at which point I would pull my original comment... but the differences we (just one of my colleagues and myself) experience are drastic. I’ll even pull some more trained ears into the scenario.
Also, i need the performance measurements to be corroborated. I’m not new to audio. I trust no one single source of literature.

reallyfledLogically I think it's most likely you've got a defective pair or there is something else at play here. I also almost never trust a single source but with Seinnheiser stating they're the same components and at least one independent test showing they have the same audio properties I can't imagine how a properly functioning pair would show such drastic differences. Additionally there are enough audiophile-esque reviews and comparisons of the Massdrop version that it's reasonable to assume that if there were such drastic differences someone would have picked up on it / reported it already.
TBH I'd probably start by testing another pair first to rule that out otherwise additional tests will be for naught. Good luck!

reallyfledIt depends on the HD650 headphones you compared with, Sennheiser changed their original design in 2008. So if you had a 1st revision HD650, the HD6XX would sound a bit different, but I wouldn't call it no depth, it's one of the more dynamic headphones I've owned.

NovaSingularityYou really should learn to do research before u buy a product. The only difference between the HD 650 and the HD 6XX is that the 6XX is midnight blue and says 6XX. literally look at any review, you find the specs.

Seriously, save your money and buy the real thing or go for some Grados. The HD6xx is flat (no depth), dull (misrepresented highs and lows), and do not provide the quality of reference that you need.
