Just received my pair from the postman🙂! They actually arrived yesterday (Friday), but FedEx delivered them to my local Post Office to be delivered to me today. I was home and expecting FedEx to knock on my door to hand me these babies personally, but nope! Anyway, I do have them in my possession and am going to first give them a listen via my iPhone X and my Simpl A1 amp. I ordered a Fiio Q1 Mk II a few months ago, but I sent it back because there was not a big enough difference between it and my decades old Simpl one (in my opinion, of course) when used with my equally decades old Sennheiser HD 580s. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Q1, I just felt the A1 still sounded just as good. I may give the Fiio another look after trying it out compared to my HD 580s.

NewType88Lol@ the Gumby comment🤣! I've been listening exclusively to the 6XX last night and into the day today (Sunday), and I haven't yet directly compared them, but the one thing I notice is how great the imaging is. The 580's did this so well, and the 6XX definitely keeps that trend going. They do however sound a tad darker, but again, this is going from memory at this point. I'm off tomorrow, so I plan to do an all-out shoot-out to see what differences good or bad that I can spot.

Michael33rsSo you ONLY use your HD 6xx with a portable setup using your iPhone as a source? These are AT HOME cans 110%. Even using them in an office setting is not ideal considering EVERYONE in a 25 ft radius will hear your music.

Assimilator702I never said that this is the only way that I use them. I use them with my home system as well. I also use them to listen to FLAC files with my iPhone. DON'T ASSUME.

Michael33rsI guess I assumed. Hehe. So is the output in your iphone flat or does that amp have EQ compensation? My Note 3 has a terrible output but the output on my iPad Air 2 is fairly clean.

Assimilator702Lol! No worries😀👍🏾. I don't use any EQ settings on my iPhone. I just download the FLAC files straight to my iPhone and listen to them through the lightning port and adapter. They sound very good, at least to me and my fifty year old ears😂! I do understand the fact that these cans are not ideal for the office though. I'm lucky that there is only one guy that I work with in my office so that helps out a lot!

Michael33rsI was under the impression FLAC files and iPhones weren't compatible? I assume you're not using iTunes for playback?

RayFIf you download the VLC app you can just drop the flac files in the app when connected to iTunes. Thats how I can listen to flac or watch videos no matter the container.

NewType88I'd done that on a computer of course, and I had even downloaded the iOS version of VLC to my iPhone, but never got around to importing any files into the VLC folder (on my phone). Did it just now, and it works as advertised. I'm listening to Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" (FLAC file) and it sounds quite good. Guardians of the Galaxy sound track up next ;- )
Anyone else interested in talking your iOS device into playing nice with FLAC files should give it a shot. Download the VLC mobile app, and refer to this Apple document for the file transfer process. Worth the trouble if only to see/hear what (if anything) you've been missing!

RayFRight on, now what I wanna know is if you can stream flac files to phone from a NAS that doesn’t transcode to a lossy quality state. Been using Deezer hi-fi trial 16bit 44khz, but it’s 20 a month when trial is done 0-0 ! I’d like to see at least 24bit for $15 a month.
