Does anyone know if this could be driven straight by a build in soundcard on a PC? EDIT: If not could the audio engine D3 drive it?

HuaLWould recommend something a bit more powerful... From what I've read, USB from your PC doesn't offer that much power for driving high impedance headphones. Perhaps the Aune X1s DAC/AMP, or if you have a decent DAC, then the Aune X7s would be a better match. 300ohm Impedance is pretty high, and while onboard sound can make sound come out of the headphones, but a more powerful amp/dac will allow much more detail and volume. In my opinion anyways.
I would check out Z Reviews, and/or DMS3TV on Youtube as both have done reviews of the HD6XX, and I believe, the Jay's Take channel, has a brief "how much amp do you need for the 6xx" video, and the Schiit Fulla 2 is powerful enough to drive it competently.
However, the HD600-series seems to scale well with more powerful amps by all accounts.
*I don't own the 6XX yet, but I do have a few Amps that from the research I've done should be okay. So, I don't have personal experience, but I definitely encourage you to do some reading and watching for yourself.

TaylorDHi Thanks for the reply. What about the D1? Also I don't have an amp.

HuaLThe D1 appears to have more power, and optical inputs are a nice thing to have for connecting to consoles, or optionally, using with your desktop that has an optical out. It might work. Again, I'd do some research because I don't own a D1 or really any audio engine product, but from what I've read any DAC/AMPs that solely rely on USB power generally can't drive 300 Ohm headphones very well.. Currently, I have an FX Audio DAC X6 that should power the 6XXs, though, admittedly, the dac, and the amp isn't amazing, it's pretty affordable.
It really depends what you'd like to do. The hobby is such that you can go as crazy as you want and/or as your budget allows. Sound is very subjective after all. I don't want to tell you absolutely go for a product I've never touched to power another one I don't have yet lol. But I can give you options.
The HD600 Series seems to like balanced as well. Which can be done via 4-pin XLR like on the Schiit Jotunheim, or 2.5mm TRRS like on the Fiio Q1 Mark II.
Again, I don't have personal experience, but I do recommend watching some videos, etc. yourself to make your own decisions. I've heard good things about the Sanskrit 6th Gen DAC from SMSL, and the Modi 2 Uber from Schiit, as well as the Aune X1s, which is the reason I joined that drop. I'm hoping the Anniversary Edition of the X1s has enough extra power for the 6XX.
If you have a local store that would let you try some 650's, especially on some different setups, or a friend with those things, that would be the ideal way to learn what sounds best to you. I would generally say go about cheaper than the D1's retail price for a first time Amp/DAC just because you don't know if it will be powerful enough for the 6XX's, though it looks like it'll be enough for most other headphones.
Sorry man, it's late and I'm sorta rambling. I'm sure someone else will chime in and let us both know whats up. Good luck

TaylorDThanks a lot for the reply! It really does help me out a lot. I have a friend that has a pair of Beyerdynamic DT990 pros and a Schiit Fulla 2 so I might go by his dac setup. I do still want to look at some other options as well though.
It's only rambling if the info's useless, so really, your not rambling :)

TaylorDBalanced benefits all headphones, not just the Sennheiser series 6. When we're talking about Jot's price point, it's more about how the amp is implemented than balanced making a difference. Sure, the balanced out on the Jot sounds heck of better sound than out of the single-ended output on the same amp, but compare that to a similar priced ifi iCan SE or Violectric G109-S which also sound great even though they only have single-ended output. It's more that the Jot is designed as a balanced amp so it sounds better balanced, it's not worth it for single-ended listening.
The D1 can output about 12mW at 500 ohms, which is short of the HD6XX's requirement of 63mW at 500 ohms, but it's probably fine for pop. You should be able to get enough volume with most music, but it will distort a bit with well recorded ones.

HuaLIt works fine with a D1. That's what I have. It won't get super loud, but it gets as loud as is safe for me to listen to for more than 30 minutes. Any louder and it'd be stuff I have to put down after 5 minutes.

TaylorDMy 6xx sounds fine paired with my Audioengine D1. It gets as loud as I want it to be... which isn't extremely loud, but still too loud to listen to for very long so people should be pretty good to go with an Audioengine D1. I have to turn the volume up around 75% before I can really hear the sound stage start to expand, but I don't notice any distortion. It sounds comparable to what I get out my HiVi Swan 1080-IV desktop speakers. My Swans sound better than the 6xx right now, but my 6xx's haven't burned in yet. I'm encouraged that they're not far apart though. I really like my Swans.

wolkix3The dt990s are way brighter cans. They both sound good to me but it does depend on your taste.
