What's everyone's first few songs they listened to (or will probably listen to) on their hd6xx?
Personally, I'll probably listen to:
Hotel California by The Eagles - overused song, i know, but i think it's a pretty good song to determine how good the headphones are.
Playing to Lose by Lemaitre (feat. Stanaj) - This song has a really good mix for being live, surprisingly.
Hook by Blues Traveler - I know this song really well, and the lead singer is really good I think.
Fragile by Sting - This song imo has a really "ambient" intro and some pretty good acoustic guitar.
Unbelievable by Owl City (feat. Hanson) - This is some pretty quality electronic/modern pop music and probably in my top 10 electronic songs list.
Bring me the horizon can you hear my heart , that's my morning driver lol
Draco by Future
Show Me How to Live by Audioslave
A Moment Apart by Odesza
Mamacita by Travis Scott, Young Thug
Water Under the Bridge by Adele
Fences by Phoenix
And so many more :)
symphony of the goddess - Nintendo. Legend of Zelda
The four seasons.
April Skies - Jesus and Mary Chain
Roller Coaster - Little Walter
Tom Traubert's Blues - Tom Waits
End of Thought - Regina Spektor
I Want It All - Queen
Drunkard's Prayer - Over the Rhine
I'm using an Audioengine D1 DAC/Amp. I may upgrade that to a Schiit stack or just pair a Magni 3 with it, but the D1 is actually holding up surprisingly well for most of the stuff I listen to regularly. I suspect that the D1 might not be optimal, but I'm also not feeling like I'm lacking anything either.
Really complex tracks with lots of stuff going on sounded terrific. Really powerful vocals sounded great too. The Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Waits, and Regina Spektor sounded awesome. Little Walter just sounded lo-fi over these cans... which those recordings definitely are.
Anything with punchy bass sounded good, but I didn't find straight ahead rock to be all that great. Mellow tracks with a dreamy vibe didn't stand out either.
At this point, I still prefer my desktop speakers (Swan 1080-IV's), but someone advised that the 6xx's need a fairly lengthy burn in time.
Almost Like The Blues
Samson in New Orleans
All About that Bass
Big Bill Morganfield:
My Doggy's Got the Blues
She Painted Fire Across the Skyline
House of the Dying Sun
The Battle of New Orleans
Black is the Night
To name a few, the HD's delivered on each song. As they burn in the bass is settling down and the upper frequencies are coming to life. Leonard and similar bands sound great out of the box; Biosphere is fantastic! I noticed female vocals are smooth and life like. Currently the higher frequencies are relaxed and the lower frequencies are tight and plentiful compared to the brightness of the upper frequencies and rolled off bass of the Grados SR80i.
Review to come in a day or two; awaiting the the Dark Voice 336se to possibly expand the sound stage.
My "break-in" list for any set of cans I get since it's just a little bit of everything:
"Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind, & Fire
"Billie Jean" - Michael Jackson
"Papa Was a Rolling Stone" - The Temptations
"Bass Head" - Bassnectar
"Juggernaut" - Zion I
"Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" - Cage The Elephant
"The Way You Used to Do" - Queens of the Stone Age
"The Planets, Op.32 : I. Mars, the Bringer of War" - Gustav Holst
"Skylight" - Gramatik
"I Put A Spell On You" - Nina Simone
"Spoonful" - Etta James
"Your Heart Is As Black As Night" - Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa
"The Cisco Kid" - War
"Keith Don't Go" - Nils Lofgren
I found a couple songs recently that are now on my playlist and some other ones that I keep going back to:
