Finally got a chance to unpack mine and give a bit of a listen, and all I can say is wow! This is my first pair of real reference quality headphones, so I must say I am a bit blown away by them. I thought that my PC-37X set sounded really good, but wow! It's funny how you don't know what all is missing until you've heard it through better hardware. Reminds of motorcycle suspension -- you only know how well suspension can work based on the best you've ridden.
Currently I am pushing these with the built-in audio on my ASUS Z170-A motherboard, and it sounds fantastic - loud enough, though I can definitely push it a bit further before it gets uncomfortable for me (at about 60% OS-level; 80% application-level). I am looking forward to seeing how these wake up further with the D30/A30 combo that dropped recently (that were _supposed_ to ship today -- but looks like will be delayed). In the meantime these sound amazing already, so I am HAPPY!
As far as music goes... I ripped the few (old) CDs I still have to FLAC and am enjoying those. Some standouts so far for me have been the Beastie Boys albums -- mostly Check Your Head, Paul's Boutique, and Ill Communication -- they all three have so many different instruments and dynamic ranges of music involved. There is a lot more to these albums than one might realize through casual listening - so many little details I've never heard before. Also, the acoustic Nirvana album is an interesting listen. Can you tell I'm a kid of the 90s?
JeremyPOne thing that is making me hesitant on joining a future drop is the bass. How is the bass on the 6XX compared to your P37X. I currently have the K7XX so if anyone else is reading this and can compare please chime in!
Secret762I would say the bass on these is punchy and super clean. Maybe not as boomy as the 37X (which has a slightly V shaped sound profile) but very clean and well defined without muddying up the rest of the frequency ranges. I don't have the K7XX to compare to.
Also, I am wondering if the bass will be slightly more pronounced with a stronger amp. I won't know that for a while yet
Even if not though, I am pretty happy with the bass on these as is, and I am definitely a fan of strong bass.
