Quick impression concerning the powering of these headphones:
Initally I bought these headphones and paired them with the regular Schiit stack looks most people. However, I personally found that it was simply not enough to bring out the full potential of the HD 6XX.
This is may be a controversial opinion because many people go this route but I wasn‘t satisfied. Even on high gain, at a 2 o’clock position, it wasn’t giving me what I wanted. The volume was good, dont get me wrong but I couldn’t see what the hype was about.
I decided to invest in a LCX from Massdrop and some balanced cables and that was it! Not just the increased power, but the headphones finally opened up to me to reveal the true quality I was looking for. They sounded less muffled, the bass was actually very good with a warm touch, and much more luscious, and the mids-treble really stood out. They transformed from a boring set of cans to ones that I can easily swap back and forth with my Elex and enjoy.
So if you decide to outchase these cans, try to pair them with a balanced set up or at least an amp that can really drive these to their full potential. You will not regret it!
