Which headphones of Drop's currently available?
I have some rewards points to burn but there's no obviously good options on Drop right now for headphones Contenders Ultrasone - maybe? I don't own any Ultrasones, so curious. Looks like garbage travel headphone which could be useful also. Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro. - Maybe? I have the DT 880 Good price point, really uncomfortable headphones but could be interesting to try the upgraded version. E-MU - strong contender but $400 is a bad price point for what it is. Which of the above would you choose and why? Nothing else on Drop is relevant to my interests, because Already own 6xx 820 800 s Ether cx Garbage / Consumer grade Meze 99 - garbage bass canons, hard pass No gaming headphones obviously Sennheiser wireless - no to wireless/bluetooth Hifiman - I have 2 of drop hifimans and they make really bad cheap shit on Drop, hard pass on HE-R7DX Aeon - I own the closed, Drop refuses to address #padgate so no reason to buy open Beyerdynamic 177x - wireless, nope Too similar 8x / 560s...

I guess what I'm saying is don't read to much into the hype reviews & fan boy praise. If you expect more than they deliver you wont get it.
The build quality is good, the price is acceptable for what they do & don't do. 3 out of 5 stars is pretty accurate when you have experiance with a lot of headphones & there price ranges. Maybe 4 out of 5 if you are new or less experienced, but no way these are 5 out of 5, not even close!
But today i'm day 6 into my 7 day re-test before i do my HD6 series review & I tried the HD6XX with my HD660s Cable on The Element Dac/Amp because i was being lazy swapping, Turns out the HD6XX it sounds quite different yet very similar. It still has a fairly Generic sound with highlighted mids & easy to hear bass but that overall sounds improved noticeably, the imaging is much much better theres more sounds getting imaged in the soundstage put at distance or static spots out of no where e.t.c., Soundstage is still small but larger than it was before (might be a depth persecption due to the imaging & the soundstage is the same.. Hard to say right now) & it no longer "cut in & out" with dull sounds in the imaging like it did with the stock cable, they are now full sounding sounds! The highs are there now, were kinda missing on the stock cable. They can be almost harsh which is familar to my ears from the sennheiser HD600 so i know they are working right now. The Music is full & warm, almost lively. The female focals are not AS intimate now & the male vocals are not AS shouty its more balanced (important to note they still can be intimate/shouty depending on the song its just not every song like it was before). It now really does pretty much sit inbetween the HD600 & HD660s. Before with the stock cable it didnt! It sat with my old Corsair gaming headset in terms of sound with only very small differences e.g. it had "Some" imaging & the corsair didnt. The HD6XX seems to love my lower quality music (192~320kb) more than the HQ versions for congested songs. Which i found suprising because the HD600 is the opposite & the HD660s doesnt care, it does it all no issues.
Now the cable that came with the HD6XX is clearly the same cable as the 660s but the HD6XX ends in 3.5mm with 6.3mm adaptor & the HD660s cable is just 6.3mm ending so in theory should be the same & same sound regardless of cable. But its not.... its really not! I just tried the HD6XX cable on the HD660s... lol yeah theres something wrong there!!! So either I have a godly 660s cable or theres an issue with the HD6XX cable or Adaptor.
So now with the cable change I'd give it a 4.5 stars out of 5 so that would show 5/5. But i'm keeping my original review up because thats using what i was sent from massdrop.
