Received mine yesterday, initial impression they felt a little plasticky for this range of headphones. Bulky cable. But don't let that influence you... Tested so far with: Iphone Xs + Apple cable DAC/amp: Not enough drive, fells way short. GrubDac -> JDS Labs C421: Lots of drive and dynamics on low gain setting. Gritty highs, slight bass lacking easily "fixable" by enabling bass enhance. (GrubDAC already has grainy highs) Macbook2,1: OK drive, sweet sound for a 2006 computer! (sweetest built-in audio laptop I've ever had) Macbook2,1 -> Pete Millet Hybrid (Headwize edition, Millet Max, MOSFET Diamond Buffer, Sylvania 12FK6, 30VDC) Now we're talking... this amp has plenty headroom to drive the 6XX, and that's apparent in the sound, effortless, dynamic, good detail (for a 2006 source!) loved the highs rendition, preserves the grit if is already on the original recording, but always makes them more bearable. Sonic signature with this rig could be described as "Lush, Oldie Hi-Fi". Not the most detailed, or ultra-resolving, but really enjoyable nonetheless, it is actually hard to find something bad sounding, all frequency bands nicely weave together.

I also compared against AKG K701 on all setups... preferred HD6XX on all.

HauntifyIf you own HD6xx, the DarkVoice 336 should be an incredible match, do you have those? I'm waiting for my DV336 to arrive and will update, along with any worthy mods to the amp. I think I also have a SOHA, and an unfinished Bijou... will test and report too. Good thing regarding that amp is if you don't like the sound, it will be really easy to sell as it's a highly regarded amp by the thousands of Senn 6XX owners. Most sonic characteristics will be determined by your source, so if you don't have an USB DAC already, you should consider getting one, those can be get really cheap from ebay on a budget. Built in audio cards on PCs are horrible. I think an AKM4396 based DAC should match greatly the sonic signature of the HD6XX (lush bass, glossy mids and feathery but detailed highs, I have a DAC based around it I love). I haven't tested https://www.massdrop.com/buy/audioengine-d3 but could be a worthy first purchase, moving to D3->DV 336 ->HD6XX afterwards.

HauntifyFor those on a lower budget, O2 could be another option: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-o2-amplifier and to get into opamp rolling to chase your preferred sound signature.
