I have unit serial #256. First comments after a few minutes/hours of usage and comparison. I must say I do not have a headphone amp yet, so my comments are based on usage with an onkyo tx-nr646 network receiver using mainly Spotify running natively on the network receiver and on usage with Tidal and Spotify running on a Audioquest Dragonfly Red/shutterbug and Ipad Pro. Comparison is done with my two main headphones: Sennheiser HD598 open over ears and Sennheiser HD25-1-II closed on ears. In a few words, I can say that the sound is very good, combining the openness of the HD598 (but not as bright/open) and the bass, yes the full deep bass, of the HD25, maybe as deep lows although the impact is not as full controlled energic and solid deep bass ("PRAT"). Definitely more PRAT energy on the HD25 but these are closed/Dj headphones in the first place, right? But definitely better, more bass and more PRAT than HD598, which sounds very "lite" and "trebleish" in comparison. In a couple of words: a averaged amalgam of the HD598/HD25 with more depth and detailed sound (midrange and highs), and stereo openness than the HD25 and more bass presence, timbre cohesion and PRAT than HD598. Some will say that the receiver's high output impedance (390 ohms I think, not sure exactly) have something to do with the extra bass and maybe lower high mids/treble compared to the HD598, but to a lesser degree my conclusions are the same using the Dragonfly Red (with under 1 ohm output impedance) with the iPad Pro. On the Dragonfly, there is slightly bit less bass presence but the conclusions are the same. I will continue on my listening and will probably seek a not too expensive home headphone Amp (no more then a couple of hundred $ CAD, maybe the schiit Magni2 or other similar or slightly higher model) that I can plug at the line output of my network receiver (which has by the way a very good AKM 32 bit DAC with DSD compatibility). I will definitely keep my HD598, but rather for easy listening TV/Netflix or related usage and use my HD6XX for music. HD25 (and 2nd pair Amperior version) still be useful when closed cans and portable usage is needed, or when I need "DJ party energy"... But for music enjoyment, the HD6XX is it for now! Anyone of you is willing to give his or hers first impressions with the HD6XX?

tessierpgReceivers suck(headphone out is way blurry you will disagree now but when you get a good Head DAC/Amp you will see what I'm saying) get an iDSD or a Chord Mojo and IFi iCan SE. iCan SE is 229 at BuyDig right now coupon code reduces the price and free shipping. https://slickdeals.net/f/9550812-ifi-audio-micro-ican-se-headphone-amplifier-229-free-shipping?v=1

tessierpgInteresting I also have amperiors. I use yaxi earpads, the protein leather ones not the angled one, very comfy. The amperiors are fun headphones, lots of punch. They are great for commuting. The 6xx are more open and have more detail. The bass is fine, more realistic than the amperiors. It will be interesting to see what they sound like a month from now. My dragonfly black drives the 6xx well, but I'm also thinking about a magni. You can use your dragonfly as a dac.

tessierpgI bought a littledot 1+ and bought Russian tubes. Sounds great. More than enough juice for my 6XXs. Russian tubes, Voshkods, bring the high end to life

KbaumNice! I haven't tried tube amps yet with my headphones. I'm still driving my HD6xx with my Dragonfly Red and iPad or Macbook Pro as sources (Apple Library, Spotify Premium, etc.), using also the small Jitterbug from Audioquest. It is a very good portable setup. I don't even know if a desktop Headphone amp would be a significative upgrade to my Mac or iPad/DFR Setup. I'm still considering an iFi iCan SE or O2 or Schiit Magni2 purchase, but serioudly i'm not sure it's worth it since I already have the Dragonfly Red as a DAC and Amp Which drive my 6xx efforlessly... i'm still debating with myself...

tessierpgI just got my pair of HD-6XX. I find them fast, quick, detailed, a little bright. I was expecting dark, mellow, maybe slow, and that 'Sennheiser veil' I kept reading about. I don't hear that. I think these may be tailored to sound more 'exciting' than the HD-600 or HD-650, but I have no experience with those. I do have experience with a pair of HD-580 from 20 years ago. Those were definitely more mellow and laid back than this pair of HD-6XX.
Maybe my Objective2 headphone amp is driving the snot out of these HD-6XX while other amps make them sound slower and more laid back. I don't know. Any ideas, anyone?
