Which amp would you recommend with these Headphones? I already have the Dragonfly Red for portable usage, but would like to buy a headphone amp for the home, which would be related to my Onkyo tx-nr646 receiver (in its zone 2 out).

tessierpgHard to say without knowing your budget. But I've heard good things about pairing a schiit stack (Modi 2/Magni 2) with them. http://www.schiit.com

SaltySlothI have a nice Denon receiver and was planning on driving my HD 6xx cans using its headphone out. This is how I have been driving my HD 598 and they sound pretty great. Would I benefit buying the Schiit amp and using that instead?

dlbsystDo you know what the output specs are for your receiver's headphone out? I wouldn't want to run anything with less than 100mW out on a 300Ω load but YMMV.
Try it out and see if you're satisfied before you blow the cash on another amp.

Heefty1000$ (Heron 5) for an amp to be used mostly with under 200$ Headphones (including HD6XX)? Makes no sense... I need a lower budget amp

tessierpgIf you'd specified your budget in the first place I wouldn't have suggested something different, but since you didn't I suggested what is, in my opinion, the best headphone amp made.
These are the most scalable headphone on the planet. They will sound exquisite paired with the Heron 5.

HeeftyWell, I have looked and looked but haven't been able to find the specs for the headphone out. My receiver is the Denon AVR-S910W. If I have to I will give Denon a call and ask.

dlbsystA dedicated headphone amp is better suited... I don't know the the specifics on why exactly... I have a denon receiver as well, and it works wonderfully for my DT770s (80 ohm), I don't have any higher impedance cans (until my 6xx's come eventually).
I would say try it out, if you like it then great... If not maybe look at a dedicated dac/amp. I suggested the schiit stack mainly because it seems like the best bang for your buck.

HeeftyI'm curious, have you tried the 650 on a more budget amp vs the heron... I have not, so I'm wondering if the difference is that huge?

SaltySlothRefer to the comment about how scalable they are. They sound great with most any dedicated headphone amp, but the better the amp, the better they'll sound.
Differences in amps are more subtle than differences in headphones, but these, like many Senns, are built such that you hear straight into the amp so the difference will be more drastic than usual.

HeeftyThe full 100w/channel is available for the headphone output (when i use the headphones, the amp is exclusive to to headphone output) on my Onkyo TX-NR646 network A/V receiver. However if the output impedance is the same as my other Onkyo network stereo receiver, TX-8160, it is then 390ohms, quite high I think... However I do not know the output impedance of my TX-NR646 since it is not disclosed in the Onkyo manual.

tessierpgyou can get an ifi ican se now for 230-250 on deal from adorama check slickdeals.net dont know about canada delivery then you can get a chord mojo later and use the dragonfly for now or an idsd would be good but its 350-375 on deal and might not happen till january same with the ican se adorama in january they should hit deal again. Dont use receiver head outs this is a known no no on head-fi and other forums the headphone outs are horrible on receivers and should never be used for headphones(blurry sound but headphones are what they are made for at least they should be but obviously arent)
