MassDebatesThey would have to purchase licensing from Nvidia. The price of the monitor would have doubled.

It actually doesn't have anything to do with licensing at all and everything to do with the controller.

1. When did I ever say it was created by Massdrop? 2. Please confirm that AU Optronics has G-Sync License. 3. Watch your mouth when you talk to your daddy. 4. Educate yourself!
While Nvidia charges monitor manufacturers to install the G-Sync hardware module into their devices, FreeSync is royalty-free and has no licensing costs. This means that consumers with Nvidia graphics cards pay a premium for the same technology that AMD card owners get for free. For a monitor to use Nvidia’s G-Sync technology, it must have a proprietary hardware module which is sold by Nvidia installed.

It has been made quite clear that Nvidia has been licensing the G-Sync technology to monitor companies for a while now.
Regardless. It cost more money to implement G-sync. If you have money to blow then you shouldn't find yourself looking for monitors on Massdrop.

FlavorTownWrong. If you have money to blow, buy 3x 1080ti and you don't need g-sync or free-sync to stay smooth during frame rate dips, because you just won't get dips.
However if over the last few YEARS you happened to buy a card from team green, who absolutely destroyed team red performance and sales wise during that period, and are now in the market for a monitor that features full support for your card.... Too bad?
Most of the requests I've seen here asking for a g-sync version acknowledge there would be a price hike to include g-sync and accept that. That alone shouldn't completely throw the idea of a g-sync version being made in the future out the window.
Even if this manufacturer/vendor truely can't provide the solution, there seems to be quite a bit of interest in a similar monitor with g-sync around the price of this panel + $150 or so for the module so it's important that Massdrop knows some of us (myself included) are in the market for one.

zypherionI don't understand where I was wrong. SLI is garbage and you will most definitely get tearing if you have no adaptive sync feature. SLI is one of the biggest pieces of crap to grace gaming, there are very few things that truly benefit from running SLI, it is useless, FACT. Higher FPS with no dips does not equal no screen tearing. Higher refresh rate can help with this making it less noticeable.
Tearing is introduced every time the GPU renders frames in a frequency above or below the frequency the monitor is capable of. In order for this "phenomenon" to be overiden Vsync (Vertical Synchronisation) was introduced. Its purpose is to all ways keep both GPU and the monitor synchronized while rendering frames, either those frames are for games or videos or anything presented on a monitor. For example your monitor is capable of displaying 56 to 75 Hz Vertical according to the manufacturer. Either turn on Vsync on in the games settings and or in your GPU's driver software (nVidia geforce experience or the 3D settings on the nVidia control panel, or if you have AMD/ATI find the relevant settings on the CRIMSON software) or try to limit somehow the rendering inside the above mentioned boundaries(G SYNC/FREE SYNC). 60Hz are a good number, but if you can manage more, by all means use it. In general more FPS on games the better for your eyes, but the monitor has to keep up with your GPU, UP or DOWN) in order to achieve the best result. Otherwise you have tearing.
I can do this all day.

zypherionNot "too bad" at all. You can pick up this monitor plus an AMD flagship card for less than a comparably specced G-Sync monitor. Now you may not be thrilled about that if you just picked up a 1080 Ti, but if you're sitting on like a 1060 without a G-Sync monitor then you should be jumping at this opportunity.
That's not to say that your points that say a $750 G-Sync monitor with comparable specs wouldn't be a great product that would sell well on here aren't very solid or that you shouldn't let MD know.
As someone who doesn't have a horse in the AMD/NVidia race/cult, the whole descent into stupid in every single discussion like this gets tiresome.

jloopy212Well reasoned, that's rare around here. I concede.
Note, this is not a surrender to the guy who jumps topic to SLI/vertical tearing... Never had an issue with SLI myself, but he's clearly in his own little bubble and I don't care to join.

zypherionI only made my descent down this rabbit hole because for some reason I was called a dumb ass for something I never said. Then I was told I was WRONG! I still have not been told what I was wrong about, I'm open to hear what it is.
Note: This is a surrender you guys win.
