make a 120 Hz version with G-Sync and DP1.4 and I will upgrade my PVA Samsung S34E790C I have for 2 years now.

m4t3yThey can't. The panel is physically incompatible with g-sync.

Silent12Acer and Asus unveiled their new 200Hz DP1.4 35inch 3440x1440 G-Sync HDR monitors based on AU Optronics VA panel, so I don't see why massdrop couldn't make one too, the panel will be probably pretty similar sizewise

HeadBassVTECI think you missed the punchline on that article:
"... they both feature a custom AU Optronics G-SYNC HDR panel that was co-developed with NVIDIA."
It looks like they haven't announced pricing yet, but they're going to retail comfortably at 2x the price of this drop and more likely in the wallet crunching "used car" range of $1,500+.
So yes, it's possible to engineer a UW 1440 VA panel and controller that work with G-Sync given effectively infinite budget and no restrictions on pricing, but the economics of such a product are very, very different than this drop.

jloopy212I don't see your point. If Asus and Acer can come to AU and buy their panels (which AU co-developed with Nvidia and which sell for premium due to having Nvidia G-Sync hw) I don't see why Massdrop couldn't do it as well. It's not like they have to engineer one, just use the right panel from AU as it already exists and it probably won't be much different from the one in this monitor. The panel size will probably be exactly the same, the panel electronics size will probably be a bit different, so they make a new plastic back cover. And of course it would not be the same price.

m4t3yWas just sayng that 100Hz and no G-Sync is not enough of a reason to upgrade my S34E790C (and most enthusiasts who have the first-gen 3440x1440 monitors with 60hz). Freesync is nice for low res 1080p high refresh rate CS:GO players but anyone who wants high refresh rate 3440x1440 will most likely have top-tier Nvidia to power it above 60Hz so freesync with 100Hz+ on this res is a bit of a miss. Most users buying high refresh rate uw 1440p will have the bugdet to afford a bit higher price if it has the right features but that doesn't mean they wouldn't want to save few hundreds if there was an option, especially since the Massdrop monitor seems to have some nice tweaks compared to competition. So if they would tweak it a bit to have an edge over competition and offer same or better price there would be people buying.

HeadBassVTECIt's great that Acer and Asus 'unveiled' these monitors but even now 4 month after that announcement non of these products is actually available for sale anywhere and it seems that the Acer version has been delayed at least until the beginning of next year.
Do you really think that this panel is readily available in quantity sitting on the shelf somewhere and MD can just buy as many as they need?

m4t3yThey absolutely could, but there's no indication that would make any sense for them to do.
On the simplest terms, lets say that the markup for an NVidia controller plus engineering cost adds $300 to the panel price (consistent with the markup on other GSync UWs). So in theory, MassDrop could potentially offer this same product only with NVidia branding for $850.
That's a completely different price point and a totally different market segment. Based on other monitor drops, the demand for a $800+ monitor is simply not there even absent this drop, which should tamp down demand for GSync even further. Comparably priced monitor drops have capped out at ~20 units - you're talking about well over 10x that and counting for this one.
That's not to say that MD won't offer something similar in the future, but there's a lot of very sensible economic reasons for them to be cautious.

etalmy local shop already has the acer in store catalogue, so it's probably quite close to being available
shame that the 2080Ti is probably early 2018 and not in the first wave of new GPUs. The Ti with the new Coffee Lakes and these new monitors would be a cool setup (if you have 3k to spend)

m4t3yThis monitor most likely uses the same exact AU Optronics AMVA panel as the HP Omen X35, AOC Agon AG352UCG and Acer Predator Z35P. The difference is the controller, which maxes out at 100Hz natively for all 3 monitors, but the Z35P is the only one able to overclock the G-Sync controller up to 120Hz. It is the controller that allows higher or lower refresh rates, not the panel itself.
I had a hard time driving a 3440x1440 75Hz LG Ultrawide with a FuryX and switching to a 1080Ti produces about 80-120 FPS for most games in max settings. Unfortunately, the 75Hz was only unlocked if a Freesync card was in use, so 1080Ti could only run the Ultrawide at 60Hz. Going back to my 1440p 120Hz non-VRR monitor, the 1080Ti can easily run 120-150 FPS.
