A "gaming" monitor with only 100hz?

Hymylsqdbetter than 60 mate. If you are cranking new games to ultra, even with a 1080ti you aren't likely to push that limit by much.

HymylsqdI have a 1080 ti and it can't run pubg at 100hz at 1440p (ultra graphics). But if you're playing CS GO and other games like that, in my opinion, 100 hz is good enough for a monitor this big.

NuclearLemonsExcept PUBG,all other games I'm playing can run above 120hz. I'm currently using a ASUS 279Q and looking for a curve monitor.

PandaskaFor CSGO, 200hz is still not enough in some situation, better to keep it as high as possible.
For dota2, hos, d3 and other games I'm playing, FPS might not be a big problem, but still, the higher the better.

HymylsqdAsus ROG Swift PG35vQ is probably the monitor for you. What are you even doing here if this monitor doesn't even come close to your requirements . Considering your standards, you just eliminated like 80% of the higher end monitors on the market so clearly you don't belong on this discussion board. Perhaps you would like to create a poll for a more suitable monitor so Massdrop may be able to arrange a bulk purchase of these 1500+ USD monitors.

CharlieMasonJust feel strange why call it a gaming monitor. It's perfect for movie or other entertainment. But the 100hz is obviously a shortage and will have negative affect on some competitive games.
We are not living in 2007 but 2017. For this price, there are a lot 144hz monitors could be chosen from, may be without curve screen or with smaller size. But for the purpose of better performance, gamers clearly have certain concerns and priority options: refresh rate.
And I really like this design. Hope they can develop other versions with higher configuration.

HymylsqdDude, seriously? Negative effect? Do you even have any idea how Monitor refresh rates work? Your standards of what is considered movies and entertainment vs gaming is way out of whack. Movies would only require 24Hz, Videos, 30 to 60 since I'll categorize Youtube as 'other entertainment' by your standards. Anything above 60 is delving into gaming territory and has absolutely no effect on playback media. Now, for the higher refresh rate division, no matter how much you'd like to think, 144 HZ is not the standard, popular of all the high refresh rates, but not even close to being the standard. Only hobbyist and enthusiast gamers even care about having a higher than standard refresh rate monitor and no matter how much you dislike it, that pretty much starts at 75Hz because higher refresh rates on commercial monitors have no other application other than gaming. The only monitor that can do 144Hz that is an ultrawide at this price point is the LG 34UC79G-B and that one is still limited to 2560 by 1080 resolution albeit with an IPS panel. This monitor is 3440 by 1440 at the same price, just a minor decrease in HZ comparatively and a panel type that is a matter of preference but as long as it isn't shitty TN. In that regard, this is still a better deal as the resolution is good enough to be demanding and nice enough to enjoy playing at, the refresh rate and response time being good balance for gaming monitors and the panel type being great for colors and contrast. Saying that 100Hz is gonna have negative effects is like saying it'll perform worse than the standard 60Hz monitors which makes no sense whatsoever. It just won't perform as well as a 144 or 200 Hz but if you want those, be ready to pay that price. However at no point can those refresh rates claim to be 'gamer necessary' while a 100 Hz is not. If you have a monitor in mind that already exists with these specs, do tell me, and then go ahead and create a poll so the people on Massdrop can vote on whether they'd like to have one.

HymylsqdIf you're looking for a refresh rate over 200 then maybe a curved monitor isn't for you. Plus it's so big you'd have to constantly move your eyes and turn your head to see the entire screen. I think you should consider buying this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WRP3F5S/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2OP5DS0INEEII&colid=1BMS50AMQANDN since it's roughly in the same price range and is a very highly reviewed monitor. I have no experience with it personally though.

Hymylsqd30hz is enough for movies and content consumption only. This is called a gaming monitor for many reasons including the 100hz refresh rate. Some people enjoy gaming casually and don't need 144hz for a good experience. This monitor is more than enough for an amazing cinematic gaming experience.

HymylsqdI'm sure you can, but keep in mind this ultra wide has a higher number of pixels (34.375% more, I just ran the numbers) so your gpu is having to do 34% more work to maintain the same image quality, basically downgrading a 1080ti to a 1080 in terms of equivalent performance. Every game you have would run at 65% of what it runs at on your current monitor bringing your "120 fps" down to 70.5. keep that in mind when looking at an ultra wide.

HymylsqdI game on a 60Hz 27" 1440p IPS display right now, so anything higher will be much better at gaming for me.

HymylsqdUnless you’re really really really good then having the highest refresh rat to get one or two milliseconds faster doesn’t make a huge difference, also that is not really what this type of monitor is about - with this kind of revolution and size it’s more about enjoying the game and it looking great than being the best there is at the game

AD2017amExactly what AD2017am said. If you want a curved ultrawide IPS 200 Hz monitor that will let you game competitively, you'll have to pay North of 1500 USD for it so why even bother considering a 550USD monitor. Also Hymylsqd, despite what may think, most gamers do not in fact prioritise refresh rate over the other features of the monitor, they prioritise price in relation to features. No competitive gamer is gonna be just happy with a 1080 TN 24in Monitor even if it was 200Hz. They get those low res small panel monitors because of the exrobitant price gouging attached with 'gamer' gear. These gamers would immediately trash their 200 Hz panels if they were offered a 144 Hz IPS 34in ultrawide at 1440 at the same price. Anyone who wants to play super competitively likely has or should have 2 monitors, one for normal usage which has a slower but more color accurate and higher resolution display that will let them enjoy all other games, movies, pictures and videos... And another high refresh rate fast but shitty colors and no bigger than 27 in because anything else would be too expensive including the fact that not all competitive games support ultrawide and in fact break that feature to ensure fairness. The Massdrop Vast is the best balance of all that a gamer can demand in a single monitor at a great, heck a stellar price point.

CharlieMasonNot entirely accurate. Depends on the game. Many pro gamers have gone to 120hz panels and up because it does make a difference, especially for games like counter-strike. Further, the competitive edge on a 24" high refresh monitor is greater than a slower, bigger monitor with better color accuracy. Lastly, some games such as overwatch cap the aspect ratio so greater than 2K screens have black borders. If you are talking about RTS or MMO it's a different story and less critical.
Have you ever played on a high refresh screen? You can tell the difference.... Even looking at the mouse pointer at desktop.
No to mention higher ratio monitors require a lot of hardware to run, and even the fastest video cards cannot max out some new games on 4k high refresh monitors.
Also there is more to gaming that refresh rates... bigger panels tend to have slower response times too., especially ultrawide. Competitive gamers don't need the extra latency.

Imago_DeiUmm dude, the whole point of my comment was that it was from the perspective of someone who was specifically NOT a pro gamer. I myself have an Asus VG248QE that runs at 144Hz and a slower larger IPS panel so I know what it's about. Anyone who's got a bit of money or reputation on the line gaming circuit is in a different category that anyone who is not. And the vast majority of them should be ok with larger panels. Playing with a 5ms response time won't kill them but they could always get a smaller fast monitor if they want to enjoy competitive gaming (not pro). Anything you said I don't disagree with. My comment was just from the perspective of gamers non pro, casual or enthusiast and it was specifically meant to address Hymylsqd's comments.

CharlieMasonMakes sense, but the vast majority of competitive gamers would take a 24 " high refresh over a 34", because at this point in time, the 34" lag... it's a "felt" lag. That means you press a button and it takes just a split second for the command to show up on screen. Some wouldn't be able to notice, the better players certainly will. Also the larger panels are subject to screen tearing etc... but I digress.
For most 24" is the sweet spot for reasons that you already said.. faster, and less than top notch pc can play the games at good settings. To go up from there you have to invest a lot of money on the monitor AND the computer.
And yes I'm talking about the top 5% of gamers, so I mostly agree with You! And PS I run a 27" 144hz 2K monitor and it's rocking... pretty much the sweet spot in the last days before widespread 4k - which will be a few years yet...

CharlieMasoncouldn't agree more I would also point out that there is no hardware combination on the planet - even titan Xp/ gtx 1080ti SLI that would be able to power 3440 * 1440 at 200hz in triple A games
