Will there be a second drop on this monitor in a few months?
I know you are all set and loving AUOptronics @Will, but having seen a few of their panels first hand I know when comparing Samsung's VA to AUO VA type, and LG's IPS to AUO's IPS, the AUO models look like trash, have significant QC issues, and respond much slower than advertised as. I just can't bring myself to give them a 4th chance when all others have been massive disappointments. I will need to see user reviews first hand to be any way comfortable with AUO as a panel choice. I am hoping this one works out. Id love for your first monitor venture to be massive success. And if it somehow does turn out the panel actually lives up to what was promised then I'd love to get in on a second drop

EDIT: Ah I see this drop has actually been going on for weeks now and a second drop at a higher price is talked about. Odd that news sites and forums are just only getting the story of this monitor happening today.

EniGmA1987Yet I have a BenQ monitor that has an auoptronics panel, and am still in love with it 4 years later. It actually replaced an AOC that I had returned after 2 days because the color reproduction wasn't good.

Max_x2Some things that dont seem to have ever crossed into your mind @Max_x2 :

AOC is a junk company, you expect their monitors to be of top tier?
What panel was in the monitor you returned? Most likely not an IPS panel so why are you complaining about color reproduction?
Even regardless of what panel is in it, AOC is a junk company. They cant afford to custom calibrate the electronics to create a proper voltage curge for the panels for every monitor they make so as with most companies who arent top tier they just use the basic voltage propfiles which leads to sub optimal gama curves and wonky color reproduction.
The only conceivable explanation for "an AOC" that you are talking about must be their push into trying to copy the top tiers with the 35" ultrawide? Not that it matters, just trying to clarify since you are extremely lacking with details. They are still a junk brand company that doesnt make quality equipment. If you have actually kept up with monitor information the past 6-7 years you would know that most high refresh monitors tend to have color issues because the electronics de-saturate and the voltage curve profiles start acting funny when the electronics are pushed to high refresh rates. The companies have to spend the money on the better electronics and custom tailer a voltage curve for the high refresh.
Why do you somehow think your 1 experience with an AUO panel somehow supercedes the multitude of people who have had issues with the panels?
4 years ago huh? So before AUO started pushing hard into the high res+ high refresh space that people have had the issues with.
What does youre experience have to do with asking whether there will be a second drop or not?

About as much as your whining about theoretical QC issues for this panel does.
At any rate, if you go through the comments this has been asked and answered a bunch of times: if this drop is successful then they will do a follow-up. Given that it's been a runaway success, you can expect a second drop at some point.

I watched LinusTechTips review on Floatplane recently, and can confirm he thinks this is a good monitor. For $549.99 free ship no tax, it is hard to beat this deal and these specs. I plan to do a new PC build when Vega 2 comes out (assuming it can come in at a good price, and match Nvidia toe to toe), so that Freesync range of 49 to 100 is fantastic for future proofing.

jloopy212How are QC issues "theoretical" when there are lots of people reporting issues with these exact panels in the the other brands that use them (For instance, the AOC mentioned above)?
