Hmm. I like the output on 14500. But not sure I really need this- doesn't tick enough boxes for me. I don't really like the clip location- not deep enough carry for my tastes, and it looks really hard to get the tip ofthe clip to slip over my jeans pocket, the way it rides right on the body step. Speaking of which, I don't care for the abrupt steps inthe body either- I have a lumintop tool aaa and the steps make getting it in/out of the pocket less than smooth like a thrunite t10 would be. Also don't care for the U/I with that electronic tail switch, if in fact it is like the lumintop where you have to turn off the light then back on to change modes.
The thrunite t10 makes a very nice EDC, - nice clip, very good switch, smooth barrel, good size, nice beam and neutral tint, but the medium is too low on AA and there is no moonlight on 14500. 600 lumen turbo would be nice too.
Or, for another 1/10th of an in in length and a tiny bit more diameter, I could have a zebralight 18650 light that has way more lumens, better U/I, way higher capacity cell, and better heat dissipation. Oh, and moonlight. Sure, I'll have to spend more. But I'd rather get what I want than have *5* EDC flashlights that *almost* tick the boxes.
Btw I've only been perusing massdrop's EDC flashlight offerings for a couple weeks, but noticed a strange lack of moonlight modes. Must be a everyday consumer vs. enthusiast thing.
My EDC flashlight needs to have an easily accessed, properly executed, sub lumen moonlight mode. You can have all that strobe bs.
I use my EDC flashlight every day for work, and also on the night stand, when camping, doing astronomy tours, and swimming at night. I rarely use moonlight for work, but all the time for the other stuff.
Slightly O/T.. There was a time when I rarely had a flashlight with me, and when I did, it was a 6 volt lantern! Then an old man I knew asked me why- didn't I ever work or play at night? Why yes, of course I do. I just didn't need extra light to see when I was younger. I hiked and worked all the time at night with just ambient star or moon light. That has all changed, my night vision sucks now!

mr_magooThanks for the very specific evaluation and feedback. In your view, what is the lumen range for "Moonlight" as compared to "Low" so that we can understand what you'd be interested in?

JonasHeinemanSo nice that you guys are reading our feedback! 👍I really appreciate what Massdrop is doing, especially using domestic manufacturers when you can.
I dont want to speak for everybody, and of course it depends on how tightly focused the hot spot is, but most in the flashlight community consider moonlight to be sub 1 lumen. I personally have found the useful range from .1 to .5 lumens. Less than that makes it hard to navigate around camp, more than about .5 is just too bright to 1) not wake up others that are sleeping, or 2) not excessively dialate yours or others' pupils and make it hard to see when you turn off the light.
I think .2 lumens is perfect for a moonlight mode.
I'd consider .09 lumens or less to be more like firefly. Some like it, but I dont have a use for that dim of light.
'Low' mode in a powerful EDC light with moonlight such as this can vary depending on what medium and high are, but 5 to 20 is nice if medium is like 50-150. Levels for a perfect 4 mode, 600 lumen light might be: [.2] [20] [120] [600]
O/T rambling follows.. The people I camp with here in Colorado really appreciate our gorgeous night skies, and consider light pollution a bad thing- that's one of the reasons we get away from the city- so when we are out stargazing I consider others' pupils and avoid shining around a bright light.
If memory serves me, actual moonlight at full moon is about .25 lux. I've found I can navigate quite well when the ground is illuminated at .25 lux.

mr_magooAgreed. I would like a sub— lumen level (less than 1 lumen) that would work with the 14500 battery. I add my vote to the deep pocket carry clip also.
