Hi everyone,
We have an update to share with you about the Massdrop Vega AA/14500 Aluminum Flashlight.
We just finished final quality control checks. While we are happy with the overall build quality, fit and finish, we determined the Massdrop Vega AA/14500 Aluminum Flashlight was produced with some differences from what was originally communicated in the drop.
The original product featured a magnetic tailcap with the titanium clicky switch. The flashlight will now feature a titanium clicky switch and a separate magnetic tailcap that is twist-activated. We apologize for these changes. We've posted a few images of the change below for your reference.
For any inconvenience caused, we will add a $5 credit to your account, which will be automatically applied to your next Massdrop purchase. This will remain active for a year, and will automatically apply as a discount at your next checkout.
If you prefer to cancel your order, you can do so on your transaction page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
We look forward to you receiving and enjoying your Massdrop Vega AA/14500 Aluminum Flashlight soon.
JaleesaGI feel like this is a bait and switch. 6 months to make a different light from the one promised? im sure y'all are gonna throw in an extra 14500 battery for our dissatisfaction yeah?
rouendWe've provided a $5 credit as compensation. Shipping LiIon batteries - especially if they are not contained within a flashlight or other device - is a pretty big hassle. We understand it's not what everyone expected, and if you prefer to cancel that option is available to you.
JaleesaGHere's a better solution for those of us who purchased this drop specifically because we wanted a flashlight that had a clicky switch and a magnetic back: since the back caps are obviously modular, why don't you manufacture the correct part and send that to us ASAP instead of a paltry $5 refund.
JaleesaGI am super bummed! I was really looking forward to this light and was so happy to have the magnet and the switch together. I only use flashlights that have a magnetic tailcap and a clicky button, whether it be on the tail (which I have none of) or a side switch. I do not like twisty lights at all!!
The absolute best feature of the drop is no longer...so this will be a gift now. What a let down.
I've seen this happen a few times on here and TBH I find it pretty shady. $5 credit on the next order?? Why would I want to come back? I doubt I'll ever buy anything on Massdrop again especially something that still needs to be produced. Bad enough we wait for 1/2 a year...and then we're told that we aren't getting what we paid for.
Hate to sound kind of harsh but your resolution just isn't good enough.
JonasHeinemanInteresting, so you response to us is basically tough shit take it or leave it? I mean why even send the magnetic cap at all? nobody gonna carry that thing around and if they do it will get lost inside of a week. when will this fail ship? im curious to see if it even works.
jhoff80Good question - we can get this measured and post updated specs in the next few days. I'm working outside the office today and we are closed for Presidents Day on Monday, but will try to get an update for everyone by Tuesday.
jhoff80Hey @jhoff80 hope you had a good Presidents Day weekend - we are back in the office now and I have those updated specs for you:
With clicky tail: 91 mm (3.6 in) / 34.4 g (1.2 oz)
With magnetic tail: 80 mm (3.1 in) / 30.2 g (1.1 oz)
JonasHeinemanHuh, so the magnetic tail cap still has a point even if you usually prefer clicky caps.
@hovan2yourjunk the Cree natural white looks good and the clip has good retention, the build quality feels nice and being an aluminum 14500 light it is light and compact. It's like a pretty round Bic more or less. The click switch is fitted well, almost as snug as the brass and titanium AAA Massdrop lights. The difference is the way the wider button feels rather than loose fit though.
JaleesaGIt would require a redesign of the cap but there are a couple ways to go about getting a click/mag setup that should be no trouble for Lumintop or any of the light mfrs. The simplest would be to take the "guarded" design like on the Tool and so many other tube lights, then press in a neo mag ring - might want to coat the mag for color matching if the nickel finish isn't desired, and for this size they may need to spec a custom magnet but again that is no problem over there. Convoy has a magnet available as an accessory that does this very thing, simple and effective. Putting the mag internally is more of a challenge and would require a totally different switch but certainly can be done, but might make the capacitor board design a trouble to incorporate since that puts the button off center. If nobody feels like trying for whatever reason, ok, but just don't think it can't be done in an effective and affordable manner. I think it would be a great design to get a cap that way from the factory.
