Hello Everyone,
We have an update on the Massdrop x Airist R-2R DAC (RDAC).
We are really excited to get them into your hands, systems, and ears. Developing and delivering the best product possible is of utmost importance to us. Unfortunately, in final QA, we determined it did not meet our standards. As such, delivery time will be impacted.
We are working as quickly as possible to update the RDACs, making sure they are nothing but amazing. We are currently anticipating delivery in May 2019.
We know that you have waited a long time to receive your RDAC and we really appreciate your patience. As a token of our gratitude, we have added a $25 credit to your Massdrop account. It will remain active for a year, and will automatically apply as a discount at your next checkout. If you choose to opt out of waiting, you are welcome to cancel your order from your transaction page.
Thank you for your enthusiasm around the RDAC. Stay posted for more information as we continue the development process.
We very much look forward to you enjoying this product!
CEE_TEEI for one, appreciate that you guys are doing thorough QA and am willing to wait before getting something that is not up to standards. Can you clarify what specifically failed to meet your standards?
JaytalI agree with the principle of disclosure in general, but since they caught the issue, whatever it was, rather than shipping me a product that might fall short of what I agreed to purchase, I accept the way this is being handled. Had the product been shipped to me with problems, then I would expect more information before deciding among whatever replace/repair/refund options might be provided in that hypothetical situation. I accept this delay as a risk I took when I decided to buy something that's not yet in production, and don't really need to know details which, if published, might be embarrassing to one of the parties involved, without really doing me any good.
I look forward to getting what I've paid for, in May, and it's taking that long so that it will work as expected. OK with me.
Dr_Rodney_McKayCEE_TEE said it is just a cosmetic issue, but as far as I have seen wont say what it is beyond that. Many are speculating that Massdrop is simply having William Tse redesign the PCB layout so it no longer looks like they ripped off the Hibiki DAC>
If this really is the case, it had better perform and sound the same in the final product that we all paid for. I already screenshot the specs, as Massdrop may try to stealthily change them without saying so. They already did make some changes to the product page and took away the Q&A we were supposed to have without saying so.
EniGmA1987I would've cancelled the Q&A too, given all the unfair accusations being thrown around. And I hope the design wasn't changed to something worse because of those accusations. I love a good underdog as much as the next guy, but sosolar's claims seem a bit more disingenuous now than when the story originally broke.
EniGmA1987You are very likely right... just kill this Hibiki whole tangent... dead,, and it will have to be an improvement,, or an unquestionable = equal in performance R-2R engine... hard to do in this biz... so it would pitch as "we gave you better", incremental is good.
Enough though still,, I'm giving credit where credit is due; Neanderthals - a much maligned and misunderstood group of peaceful people, the basis of R-2R DAC, the ladder: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-x-thx-aaa-789-linear-amplifier/talk/1986531
For those of you waiting to hear R-2R, it is worth it...
JaleesaGGot it. Thanks! Not as interesting as I hoped. There are only 7 questions mostly explaining features with many questions already answered in the forums. Considering the whole point of this DAC is the unusual design with some technical challenges, which normally measures very poorly, it would have been good to have more design and performance questions selected to assuage these concerns. Oh well, I guess we'll find out in a few months (hopefully).
BjornIf it's delayed again, we'll find out in the month it was supposed to have been delivered, again. When it was delayed in December 2018, I fully expected not to hear another peep until the revised estimated delivery time in May 2019. I'm just hoping that next peep will be delivery rather than another delay.
Dr_Rodney_McKayYou know, I am going to be SUPER pissed if the "cosmetic issue" that delayed these for about 6 months was simply that Massdrop wanted to order new chassis with the new "Drop" logo on it rather than Massdrop since they already knew behind the scenes their name would be changing.
EniGmA1987That's doubtful since they are selling new stuff with Massdrop on them. (see the recent Beyerdynamic headphone) and the logo is on the back. If they had to go back the production line, it must have been something more serious like poor fit and finish.
