nobi_oneThe resulting analog signal is smoother and more harmonic than a delta-sigma sound. As someone who loves the convenience and precision of digital but would prefer the analog smoothness of vinyl all else being equal, R2R DACs are a happy medium. That they've slowly become more affordable is just good news. Hopefully this one will match favorably to my previous experience with R2R.
nobi_onedepends on your gear. If u have a great tube and ss amp and a few pairs of great cans then this is the next add.. its about being better or worse but different sonics imho.. this appears to be a great multibit for low price
ZM326Depends on your chain. My amp and cans don't color the sound that much and are generally very revealing of detail and dynamics so I can afford to add smoothness and harmonics without muddying things or flattening everything out. As a rule of thumb, my assumption is the CTH or another hybrid tube/SS might be a better fit for an R2R DAC, depending on how much the tubes take over the sound of the amp. But that's based on my recent personal experience with my specific R2R 1. Seems like historically the quality of R2R DACs has been all over the place.
If you have big concerns, I'd wait to read more reviews from people who have similar downstream gear to you and read what they have to say.
abraxalitoOoh I'm not a DIYer. And I've got my DAC situation all figured out now. Super happy there.
I gotta say though, I had the the grace m900 before and it sounded pretty "sweet" for a midrange delta-sigma combo.
What separates this from a top-end delta-sigma DAC to warrant this purchase?
