I'm looking for a nice pair of headphones but only really listen to music on my laptop or iPhone. Are these overkill?

LeechFilcherany recommendations on here then? I mostly use a pair of sennheiser sport earbuds. Would these AKG headphones require an external amp?

whalen5896They will still work without but if you are interested in the experience that they are ment for get an amp or dac/amp.

whalen5896Yes, I think that these might be "overkill" for your needs. However, I think that you should get them, if just for the pride of ownership. If you can afford them, buy them. It will be money will spent.
Also, I came across an outstanding set of headphones to use with my iPad, computer and iTouch and they only cost ($16) with free shipping. I know, sounds too good to be true. They are the Monoprice 8323 headphones. http://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=8323
These phones sound just awesome with anything. If you do get them, invest the extra ($5.52) for the memory foam replacement ear pads. Tyll at Innerfidelity.com has these headphones on his "Wall of Fame", along side phones that cost ($300) a set and more.. These phones also come with a long and a short cable (for your phone etc.)

whalen5896an external amp is imo a good option, I would prefer some low OHM headphones or earbuds. these can't deliver their full power on the 16 ohms of your IPhone, yet you could use them with a amp on your computer, if you need any recomondation on them just ask. There are a lot of helpful people here. If you are looking to buy these to enjoy some music on YouTube, I wouldn't recommend them either, use high bitrate audio, especially for these. I would recommend an amp from Shiit Audio. A bit pricy but thats how audio equipment works sadly. If you want a cheaper one you can go with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Hopefully that helped :)

Observer1000I have a pair of the Monoprice phones too. Decent headphones...for the the price.
Soundwise, and comfort-wise, the AKG's (and my RBH-HP-2's) blow them out of the water though.
They should - they cost 200 bucks. I never use the mono's anymore, gave 'em to my kids.
